What was your favourite Galaxy S-series phone?

This thread covers the original S (2010) up to the present S22.

Have you had all of the generations? Or every other generation as per 2-year contracts? Are you now sim-only? It seems to make sense with premium phones to buy them outright or stick on PayPal credit 0% for 4 months.

I had the Galaxy SII, S4 then a Note 4. An S8+ as well and now I have the S20 Ultra.

I thought the SII was a huge step up from any phone I previously had (Nokia/Sony-Ericsson/LG/Samsung). I still have it as a spare! I was amazed with the vibrant colour range of the screen. It reached the point where I posted in the Monitors section asking for a monitor recommendation. The general response was that the Dell Ultrasharp would come closest to the SII's colour range. So I got one of those.

The S4 was a smaller step up for me but I still enjoyed the larger screen size.

Although I was late getting the Note 4 (mid-2015), I again still enjoyed the large screen size. The alternative back then was the Samsung Galaxy Mega, but critics panned it on performance grounds.

The S8+ was another big step up for me. It did away with the bezels including the bottom 3 buttons. I also opted to remove the on-screen buttons and learned to 'flick' the screen to invoke those buttons which gave me more screen space. The finger unlock placement on the rear of the handset was a slight setback, but like with the 3 front buttons, it was down to "muscle memory". Just remembering where the button placements were and getting used to it. I can't say the same for the Office 2007+ ribbon though, 15 years on!!

I'm now on the S20 Ultra. I think the camera is very good, to the point that it's now my main camera. I also love the biggest (yet) sized phone at 6.9" and I haven't found another phone that gone over that.

My current situation is that I can afford to buy a flagship outright every year. However, I'm not interested in the latest models. Happy to hold onto the S20 Ultra for at least another year.

In short though, the SII will always have been my biggest step up :)

I also agree with the SII, the screen and form factor were amazing and I loved trying out different ROMs on it. I tried the SIII later on but that lasted around a week. My next and last S series phone was the S7 edge and that also lasted around a week. That experience put me off Samsung phones for life.

I've had big list.
Galaxy S
Galaxy SII
Galaxy SIII
Galaxy S4
Galaxy S5
Galaxy S6
Galaxy S10e
Galaxy S21 Ultra
Galaxy S22 Ultra

Note 3
Note 4
Note 20 Ultra

Out of all these Samsung phones i've had over the years the one that i was most excited about getting was the Note 4, awesome phone back in the day the only downside to it was the lack of support from Samsung for it, back then updates where very few & far between, the S series back then where better supported due to being more popular.

Went a few years without buying another Samsung phone due to crappy support & update policy, switched to the iPhone for a while before coming back with the S10e.

I've owned every single Galaxy and Note except for the S10 and Note 7 (I even had the Note 5) and my favourite was the Note 20 Ultra followed by the Note 4.
Big misses for me was the SIII / Note III, S5, S6 and S8 / Note 8

Got the S22 Ultra now but with a recent terrible trade in experience this will be my last Samsung

I loved my Note 4.

I firmly believe, I'd have used it for at least 1-2 more years if it hadn't died on me.
Recently, I've used the S20 Plus, then onto S21 Ultra, and now S22 Ultra.

I'm actually using both my S21 and S22 ultra at the same time.

Note 3 was the last Samsung phone I owned which I really liked. Was an amazing device for its time and imo was Samsung at their best. Have owned a few since then (S20 FE, S20) but not kept them for long at all....

Another Note 4 fan here - I've used/owned some of the S series over the years but they aren't for me. Disappointed there is no worthy Note 4 successor.

The Note 4 was the first Samsung phone I owned and even today as a Note 10+ owner I still love all of mine. One is in use as a remote and another as a backup phone chucked in the bottom of my backpack.

There's a theme developing in the replies:)

That's interesting about the Note 4, deffo a theme as @Big Elf said!

True story - I fell into the sea with the Note 4 in my back jeans pocket. Was walking along the harbour in either Paignton or Torquay with my sister and Granny. I slipped into a high tide area with water now above my waist. I quickly pulled out and removed the back cover, battery, sim + SD. Left it in Granny's airing cupboard for 24 hours, put everything back in place and it was working fine. So I got lucky, considering the Note 4 wasn't IP-rated like the later S-series cousins. Then it lived on for another 2 years before I sold it.

A friend of mine got his Note 4 the same time I did, July 2015. He held onto his Note for many years and he only replaced it a year ago (early 2021) when finally it would no longer turn on.

I liked the Galaxy S. My firstish smart phone. I was talked into getting the Wildfire by my provider and it was terrible. Tiny screen and tiny keyboard. I changed it for the Galaxy and was completely blown away by the plethora of apps you could get such as a sound meter app. That has to be my favourite as it introduced to a whole world of new apps. After that it was small upgrades until the S7 Edge. A phone I loved and it got me into VR with the Gear VR. It seemed to do so much and was waterproof too. I gave it to my partner when I upgraded to the S9 and she promptly dropped it naked in the bath somehow and completely messed it up. She had it two weeks. I managed two years without dropping it. Since then, they have seemed nice but a tad dull. Nothing really stands out like the S7 did.

Loved my S2 and my S7 Edge (albeit hated the rounded edge), but favourite has to be the S10 which I had as a work phone.

Genuinely awesome all round device, didn’t have a single issue with it :)

I had an S6 but the battery was abysmal.

I had the S2 and S7, the S7 is probably the best phone I've had with regards to features and size (I still miss the headphone jack!) but moving from a HTC Hero, the S2 was the largest noticeable jump in performance.

Barring a couple of iphones between the Omni and Note, I haven't had a bad run of Samsung kit, none failed on me neither. I think the original Note was such a game changer, it was the biggest difference for me so will say it was the most fun. the new Ultra 22 cameras should be enjoyable with the kids and the odd bit of travel too.

Samsung Omni
Note
Note2
Note4
Note7 (loved to live dangerously til they disabled it and demanded it back).
S7 (temporary replacement for the Note 7).
Note8
note9
Note 10+
Galaxy S22 Ultra on its way.

the S2 was by far the most impressive phone (went from an iphone 3gs i believe) realistically speaking it did everything i still use my smartphone to do these days.

I still have my S2 running a clean AOSP kit kat rom. It's my alarm clock. With the official extended battery and cover.

Remember removable batteries!?

Have they fixed the pink line problem going down the full length of the screen, they would not admit it was their fault and refused to repair under warranty if i remember.
I had it on an S7 and my mate had it on his.
