What was your first ever CPU?

386 SX16, then a 486 SX25, DX2 50, DX2 66, DX4 100. Then on to Cyrix 686 133, 166. From there, PII 450, P3 733 then an 866. Went AMD after that, AXP 2100, 2500+ then on to the C2Ds...

First proper PC was a 486 SX 33Mhz.

First PC that I bought was a Pentium II 266. Slot A if I remember correctly. Looked like a MegaDrive/SNES cartridge.

Next up? Who knows... a C2D over 3GHz is still a pretty powerful platform. I expect I will upgrade towards the end of 2011 to a 6+ core system.

Was it worth it? Why not just go 1200 to 4400? I'd say a CPU is only worth considering if it at least tipples CPU performance.
