what was your first lesson like?

My first lesson the instructor took me about a mile away from home, then set me off on an A road, 30 and 40 zones, then straight down a NSL unlit road! Totally bricking it as id hardly even driven before! I think when I told him id passed my bike test that day he thought I could pretty much do anything, I think the shock tactic worked though as 15 more lessons and id passed :)

Main thing I remeber was my thought of "Right, the accelerators goes a fair way down the travel, the brake must be the same"

Cue me nearly going through the windscreen :p

happened to me when i first drove an auto!!! used my left foot to brake for a few days, then realized, just use the one foot!

My first lesson was great. Went on dual carriage way within 10 mins and did 3 point turn at end of lesson. Then he booked my test the next day :)

well yeah, but i meant i am generally a nervous person and hitting the cerb and stalling twice i dont think i would call it a good lesson

People who have been driving for 40+ years still stall it occasionally, theres a red L on you're car for a reason, because you're a learner. If you pick up on why you stalled it, then that's a good lesson!

As for hitting the curb, that's nothing to worry about, you haven't had many real driving sessions on the road before so are still learning how to guage your distance etc.

As for you're nerves, just chat to you're instructor while driving, ask him how his/her weekend was etc, talk about what you're doing at the weekend or how college/whatever is going and you'll be so much more relaxed :)

Mine was nearly 8 years ago, I had never been in a car, didn't know what to do but my instructor taught me well, it was on a road around and industrial estate, it was a busy road so it gave me some confidence to what I was going up with.

7 years later I am still driving and not a point or crash to my name, I was always scared of driving but I am glad I learnt when I did and who I learnt with, I also did the Pass Plus which I found a big help on the motorways, Why the government dont make motorway learning mandatory I will never know, I learnt some great skills on the motorway to avoid being a statistic.

My instructor was a nutter at times, if someone did anything stupid in front of me he would wind the window down and give them what for.

I already had a decent concept of cars and how they worked and some people disagree but racing sims (+G25 :D) can give a slight understanding of how the pedals work in which order and when to use them.

Was easy as..

Did tonnes of clutch control with my dad before I had lessons, first lesson was 2 hours long at 9am on my Birthday, drove down some country lanes, round a round about and back home., quite fun :D

Was in a 1.2 Cilo.

I'm 22 and my first lesson was on Saturday :). 2 hours, about 40-45 minutes of which was driving round a quiet residential area. Most of the other traffic was learners anyway... Stalled it twice, both times while stopping iirc. Never driven anything bigger than a go-kart before so wasn't expecting too much

My first lesson was easy but i'd already had a go in my mums Ford Escort in a deserted car park & had my dad had let me drive his Capri in an industrial estate for 10 mins.

First time i used the brakes though my mum would have been launched through the windscreen if i braked much harder, haha.

Don't remember it too well, probably just usual fare, about local industrial estates, lots of stalling.

The instructor decided to retire after it though and I had to get a new one.

had my second lesson on weds for 1 1/2 hours and i enjoyed it allot more this time,he showed me how to aproach junctions and also a bit of the same as what i done on my first lesson which was starting and driving for a bit then stopping. He said next week i will have ago doing the same then he is gona take me on some busier roads then he said if that goes ok he will let me drive home.I am looking forward to my next lesson now :)

I did a lot in my first lesson as I had done motocross since I was 14 so gear theory and clutch control was all natural to me.

My first lesson on how to drive a car lasted an hour and I never even got to sit in the car.

My dad started by teaching me all the mechanical aspects of cars and how they relate to being a reasonable driver.

It took me two weeks of lessons each day before I was allowed to actually get the car to move under it's own power.

I think it all worked out well, in the end, though because I passed my test at 10:00 on the morning of my 17th birthday without a single mistake. I had only been driving myself on the public roads for less than half an hour before doing my test.

my lesson i just had on thursday didnt go very well, first time out on proper roads, stalled at every round about,i felt like such a wolly. The instructor said i lift my foot off the clutch too soon when we get moving.I also had a go at a hill start which i was fine at.I am going to do a lesson on clutch control next time.

Does being 10 years old and running over a memorial bench in a cemetery while trying to steer a digger count? ;)
