LCD in laptop just died, flashed rapidly, stopped for a while then eventually just died. Feint burning smell and a HUGE amount of heat on the plastic lid where the inverter sits.

I've pulled it out and I cannot see any visible burning or signs of overheating. I can get a used inverter for about £15 but want to know whether people think the inverter has actually gone and not another part of the system/LCD screen that in-turn caused the inverter to overheat when it's not actually failed.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Well the panel itself is good, can see things so it's the backlight. Whether its the backlight itself or the inverter I dunno.

Guess Ill take a plunge on an inverter and see!
