What's happening? I just started up my pc and AVG won't update and also Windows Update won't update.

My connection seems fine... Shall i turn router on and off??? ( lol )

Only changes i've done since yesterday are...

Installing CS:S
Turning off System restore.

I'm having the worst month ever. :(

Maybe their servers are up the blink. AVG: likely, Windows: don't know (never update mine)

My bro just got home and i asked him to see if his was working and his worked straight away... :(

I haven't changed any settings... :( It's something on my pc though. resetting router didn't work :(

Does that on mine too occasionally (even though it's updating from another PC) uninstall/reinstall of latest downloaded .exe AVG sorts it

It fixed it's self last week but now everything has stopped working again. It seems it is indeed IE7 that is causing many people a lot of problems and is stopping all programs from updating.

If there is no fix tommorow when the official version of IE7 is released along with the monthly updates then i will be most certainly be moving to Firefox and Thunderbird. Goodbye flipping player shim pop up.

Also where's WM11?

Also i can't get on Microsoft.com

Ok forget all of that...

It's my Windows Firewall Or Linksys Router Firewall that's causing the problem...

Nothing updates so...

We reset the router with the button on the back and it seemed to work so then we turned the router off for all of 12 hours and the next day it was ok but later on in the evening the internet went completely down and it didn't work upon switching router on an off again. It came back on the next day and it had been working fine for about 2 days but now it's buggered again...

When i check my network connection sometimes they don't have the little locks next to them but when i check the firewall it says it is still turned on?

What the hells going on?

Do i need a new router? Do i need to check both pcs for something that might be triggering it? Settings on the router? *drops to knees why god whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy*

It's weird because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. We haven't changed any settings on either of our pcs. I made my brother clean his pc up last week and did a virus scan on it but it didn't find anything and nothings changed.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

All other internet functions work fine like I-net, online games etc, it's just the damn updates don't work on any programs at all :S

Just incase this may have been why no-one may have answered...

It's a Linksys - BEFW11S4 wireless router... using as a normal router though..

Haven't changed any settings and have been using it for almost 2 years and have never had this problem until 2 weeks ago.

I would focus my efforts elsewhere than the router. You say that you can access the internet using various applications and different ports with no problem. I cannot see how your router would know to block only update packets. Even with packet filtering it would quite an effort to configure a firewall to allow all packets except updates. Also you brother's machine can update fine.

Either assign your IP address as DMZ and check for updates, or attach your PC directly to the Internet. That way you rule out the router. Troubleshooting is a process of elimination.

You need to rule out your router before anyone can help

Ok umm...

We turned all the power to the router and modem off last night and turned it back on this morning and it's all working again lol...

Some of the sites i was searching on also wouldn't load but now they work fine again now :S

Strange :S

I think what may have made the prob come back last time was us pressing the reset button about 15 times and holding it in for a lil bit :P

Tip : Turning stuff off and on again fixes everything :D jk :P
