Wouldn't anyone looking to buy a new GPU simply take 5mins to check out the benchmarks? BUT that being said a simple naming system would not be a bad thing.

The refresh (obviously after G80's refresh hence ATI/AMD's new naming scheme) will have the inevitable Platinum Edition moniker = ATI Catch.Up X2.XTX.PE. :D

Wow. I'm glad I keep up to date with all this. I think we should dedicate ourselves to help everyone we know when it comes to gfx choices lol.

To the newbie that is some collection of numbers coupled with the same 512mb memory of some of the top end models to add to the confusion.

...and that's without even going into the history books for things like Ti, MX, X8 (AGP speed)...you would have thought in any other business constantly changing the names would be a business disaster since the vast majority of people then don't know what they're buying, but maybe that's what they intend ;)

P.S. - Note - doesn't clearly apply to anyone reading this board, since almost by definition, you're going to be miles ahead of the PC World buyer
