Hi

I've frankenbodged the following system for the princely sum of £101.75 for my son to mess around with (under very tight supervision I might add)

A dell optiplex mini tower with;

-305w PSU (Dell PSUs are pretty good as far as OEM goes)
-4gb 667mhz DDR2 (Though rated @ 800MHz!)
-Core 2 Duo [email protected]
-160gb HDD

Added the following;

-7750 1GB GDDR5 (really hard to find a GDDR5 version that fits, but done it)
-Had to buy a wireless n card too, else would have been well under £100

Added some freebies lying around the house.

-An old TFT monitor. I think its 1440 x 900 or something.
-Keyboard + mouse.

The main thing he wants to play is Minecraft. Is he going to be able to play that @ the res mentioned above? I've never been interested in it, so IDK what it needs.

I've got a feeling its going to do OK at quite a lot of games to be honest.

Wish me luck.

I think you should be fine with most stuff. Although minecraft is pretty demanding.

It runs on the family i3 laptop with internal graphics on low, so i don't think you should have any problems.

Should be just fine, I ran it on my old Core 2 Quad with a 8600GT at lowest of the low, but it ran - you have a slightly worse CPU but a far superior GPU so you should be fine

I've ran it acceptably on a core 2 duo 1.3 with a gma4500mhd.

If you use the latest 64 bit Java with 4GB of RAM it should fly. I'd also recommend installing optifine since it boosts the FPS quite a bit. I use it even on my main rig.

should be fine.

i have a dual core E8400, 4GB of ram and a Radeon HD 5450 and it runs ok on that with everything on low. like you i had to get a low profile GPU.

jumps when a lot is going on but the gpu is not the best in the world
