Ive had a look around and cant find any info on the next line of uber high res monitors.

I've seen the alienwhere panoramic thing and some other odd balls but nothing about desktop TFT.

The Alienware thing is pretty nasty.

I think a 30" is hard to beat. That and the price is already far beyond what most people could afford/justify on a monitor. The size of a 30" can already be too much for some people to physically look around, so I can't see it getting much bigger as a physical unit.

Going above 30", you'd have to be sitting so far away to see everything that you wouldn't be able to see details on the screen.

Even 24" is enough for a gaming monitor imo.

Higher resolutions need better gpu's too, and you wont be able to play modern games on something that big very well (doubt you'll need AA though :lol)

I was thinking about more about resolution than screen size. 2560 x 1600 has been the highest 16-9 resolution for a long time now.

The next wide screen resolutions would be,

2880 x 1800
3360 x 2160
3840 x 2400
5120 x 3200

But I seem to remember 5000 x 3000 is about as much as a human eye can resolve, but i could be wrong about that.

I would pay a boat load of cash for a monitor with a resolution of 5120 x 3200.

I reckon there probably will be a market for these monitors but probably in the specialist fields, such as medial sciences, physics etc. But who knows if the prices start to come down in the future. At the moment though 30" is a bit out of the average users reach anyway.
