What will replace the 1800XT?

I'm going to be ready to upgrade my rig to something like an 1800XT, AMD 3700SD in the next month or two. I'm wondering what will replace the x1800XT performance wise if that card is no longer available? I'm half tempted to buy now, but in nearly all these cases, it's best to wait.

if its a 256mb one then i'd say a 7800gtx 256mb second hand overclocked would suffice. if its a 512mb one, its a little trickier.

and cant wait to get the thing put together....
