I'm just wondering if this cpu is going to be worth the price over the q6600.

it seems a little quicker, but i suppose it all depends if it can overclock more while being cooler? or isnt it cooler because the G0 is 45nm too right?.

I am really picky now with new stuff and havent changed my cpu/mobo/ram in a while because of problems with either ram or mobo and cant o/c squat on this. is there any other people here considering getting one of these? i think EasyRider is?

Also is there anybody that has gone from water - air or vice versa and noticed a big difference in temps? because its another thing im looking at but its a good 300 quid, and the 300 quid could buy the processor and some nice ram or at least a good mobo.:o if only watercooling was a little cheaper

It depends a bit on your rig because of the low multiplier. Anandtech was doing some testing with the extreeme version and found the cheaper boards didn't handle over 450fsb so well.

They recommended using higher multipliers and lower fsb on the yorktowns which obviously isn't possible with the multiplier locked lower models. The Q9450 is probably the one which will interest most people and with it's low multiplier and a 450fsb you are looking at about 3.6gig which aint bad, but is lower than some current Q6600's.

It will be a while before the model above drops in price enough to make it attractive to most of us.

Yes its cooler... yes it takes less power... But Q9450 will be limited by its *8 Multi meaning you will probably get somewhere between 3.6ghz - 3.7ghz out of it...

If I could buy a Q6600 G0 with a 1.200 or less VID then I would buy that over the Q9450, if you have a Q6600 that will do 4ghz then I would keep that over the Q9450, otherwise take the Q9450

Did they consider all the strap research that was done last year? Lower multi doesn't have to be bad.

Hi fella

I don't recall any mention of anything like that. Got a link?

They specifically mentioned they were seeing problems with cheaper P35 boards using high fsbs, I think the review I was reading was for the MSI P35 Neo2-FIR

I wouldnt say its better, more its not worth the upgrade if you have a good one.. The Q9450 is around 5-10% faster clock for clock so a 3700mhz Q9450 is similar to a 4050mhz Q6600

so clocking it to say 3.6 would be better than the majority of Q6600's

but then we are talking more money, or are they to be the same price as the Q6600?

Its Yorkfield and 3.6ghz Yorkfield is afster than 4ghz Q6600

I heard the Yorkfield chipset is far more superior than the Conroe G0 models and that these new Yorkfields Q9450 and Q9550 will be able to achieve the upper 3GhZ mark quite easily.

For people who already own a Q6600 perhaps it won't be worth it for them but for people who own the Dual Core models like E6600 etc would benefit from the upgrade I would imagine?

If you buy a half decent P35/X38 motherboard and some half decent aircooling no reasons a Q6600 wont reach 3.5/3.6 with few issues..

Again if you are upgrading a duel core I would certainly look at the Q9450 over the Q6600.. but if you have a decent Q6600 then no point!

3.6 should be doable on air pretty easily. I only used 1.35v for the Q9550 at 3.7ghz so temps were never that high.

Depends on which cooler, can't imagine that a tuniq tower would need to be very loud?

Still thinking i should go with water cooling but as i said its a little expensive seeings as i dont have much cash atm. However, anything quieter than the 42db fan i have now would be nice :o

no point in getting cheapy water cooling
