What wire should I use with my new 27" monitor?

I just bought a new Iiyama 27" prolite a few days ago and I believe I am using an DVI cable at the moment, should I use HDMI instead or would it not make a difference?

Also when you usually buy a monitor do you change anything in the settings or do they generally just work and look fine out the box?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

DVI and HDMI offer the exact same image quality since the video signal is the same - so I would stick with what you have if it is working fine. In fact, with HDMI you may have some initial issues with GPU scaling - hence why most people hook their PC up via DVI and leave the HDMI free for other sources (games consoles, cameras etc.).

As for set up you may want to have a hunt around for other people with that particular monitor (ideally someone with a colourimeter) and get an idea of what settings they run theirs at. However, if you want to go into more depth and get accurate colours then you need to personally do a calibration with a hardware calibrator - but unless you are doing colour-critical work then this is likely to be unnecessary.

i fully agree with cmndr_andi for profiles and calibrator

however, it can sometimes be down to personal taste so if u are happy with what u have then keep it that way... at least for now

I used an HDMI (gpu) to DVI (monitor) cable, simply because they were cheaper to buy in longer lengths than DVI to DVI, no idea why though
