Having a bit of a brain fart... Writing an arsey letter to the council regarding their stupid parking fines (as they gave me one for something ridiculous) and trying to think of a word... It means a wide variety- the word is something like smorgisboard but I am having a complete mental block

What word am I thinking of? :p

Thanks

smorgasbord

noun
1. a collection containing a variety of sorts of things; "a great assortment of cars was on display"; "he had a variety of disorders"; "a veritable smorgasbord of religions"
2. an assortment of foods starting with herring or smoked eel or salmon etc with bread and butter; then cheeses and eggs and pickled vegetables and aspics; finally hot foods; served as a buffet meal

You made that up :p :D

I did a Google search for "smorgisboard", it's so strange seeing this word in different sentences. It's like the word just popped into existence. It even sounds like a made up word!

How do you actually use it in a sentence ?
From my letter:

I trust my £30 will be put to good use on the veritable smorgasbord of council initiatives currently running that will doubtlessly prove utterly useless to me. Might I

Sounds like your about to go into 'Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here.'.

What the hell, never heard of that before. How bizzare, it sounds like something Klingon, or a character name for someone in a Discworld novel.
To me, it sounds like it's "borrowed" from another language. Probably a Scandanavian language, though in an Anglicised form. Par for the course for English - it contains words from a smorgasbord of languages :)

Looking up the etymology...yes, it's Anglicised from Swedish. Literally "sandwich table", it refers to a table containing a collection of different foods (like a buffet table). The meaning has expanded into a collection of any different things, not just foods on a table.

blimey its Swedish and if you used it in this context id think you were a bit of a bell. tbh! :p
