Hi all,

I'm a Systems Support Technician and I would like to add to my Higher National Diploma In Computing achieved 6 years ago.

I have experience in the below subjects.

Desktop Support

Windows NT, XP, Vista and 7

Server Support

Windows NT Server, 2003, 2008

Active Directory, DC Roles etc.

Applications Support

McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator
SharePoint Server 2007 (Support not development)
Microsoft Office 2003/2007
Remote Access
Nokia Firewalls
Video Conference Solutions

Maybe one of the Microsoft courses?

How long do they usually take and cost?

Can anyone recommend a course provider?

Depends entierly on what sort of direction you want your career to go, and (more importantly) the direction your employers want it to go.

Something like an MCITP Enterprise Administrator would put you in very good standings, considering the heavy microsoft server focus. That is 5 exams, so £500 in exam fees and about £500~£1000 for each course you decide you need - although you could self teach.

If you do them in the right order you'll become an MCTS first, then an MCITP Server Administrator, then an enterprise administrator

Thanks for the reply Iain.

Are you able to recommend anywhere that does these courses\exams?

I will try and do it in the order MCTS/MCITP/Enterprise as its likely to be self funded.

I've done a lot of courses with QA-IQ (Microsoft, Citrix and VMWare) and they have always been good - good instructors and facilities. Exams generally get booked through Peason Vue, but it just so happens that my local test center is a QA site too!

They back doing exams now at the QA site in Exeter? Last time I went there they didn't do them any more and Plymouth was the nearest place :(

I know Nexus do Prometric ones now too.

It's been a while since I've done one unfortunately, but when I did my CCA a year ago I did the exam there. ISTR they had just started doing them again when I went in.

They always have nice girls on reception too

I couldn't possibly comment :p

Yeah was a good few years ago since I did anything there, and about 2 years ago I last looked into taking an MS exam there. Still not taken any :)

Got 2 I need to book up and take at somepoint though.
