Hi please can any one tell me if 2 nVidia 1Gb GTX 460 cards would be better than 1 single 2Gb GTX 460 card Cheers

Yes it would. What would be even better is a single GTX480.
I would personally say something like a Barts based 6870 will probably be a good compromise though all things considered, as it should be faster than the 460 and be pretty efficient and hopefully cost effective...

Define better. 2 460's pretty well spank a single 480 for the same price, and overclock better. Of course only in games that support SLI well - so that's pretty much everything nowadays

Check your PCIe lanes on the motherboard before you decide. Some secondary PCIe lanes are only 4x which would be quite detrimental.
