I'm looking to update my old machine for my dad to use. I'm a little stuck on what to do about the processor. Its a socket 939 motherboard and I have a choice between an a64 4000 or a 4800x2 - would i notice or should i say he notice a big difference when gaming?

everything would be at stock but i spose i could clock it.

I was just after a sort of comparison. Would it be work the extra 80 quid for the x2 chip if I'm not going to notice a huge or even moderate improvement.

I've pushed to 2.4 stable but not really bothered messing around anymore than that.....

Perhaps i should and see what i can get and if i ram it then i spose buy a new one.?

I have an A8n SLI premium board. with 2 gig twinx xms memory.

What should be a realistic target.

As for games mostly world of warcraft and half life2/cs:s
