What would cause slow printing?

Basically I purchased a Canon Pixma iP4200 - it printed off photos nice and quickly, much to my pleasant surprise.

Anyway, had to reinstall. I chose to download the printer drivers, and install them with no CD. Which worked, and seems to work fine - just adding this, in case it makes any difference.

I want to print a colour document at high quality (autoroute) - only to find it is slower than it was before the reinstall.

I'm thinking it could be USB drivers, or printer drivers. Any easy way to tell?

Cheers!

my guess would be the USB setup, is the port it's on USB 2?
If it's on a hub is that USB2 or 1.1?

Also what else have you got on the same USB controller, as I think some devices can have an adverse effect on others sharing the controller.

It's possible that by re-installing the drivers some quality settings have changed from what they were set to previously.

Even USB1.1 should be plenty fast enough at 12mbit.... unless you are printing absolutely huge filesizes it shouldn't really make much of a difference I wouldn't have thought.

Have you tried printing another document e.g. test page or a random image to see if that is slower than before?

Just printed off a full A4 photo, an print speed was as it was before.

So how come colour documents on high quality are taking a while? :(
