What would happen if I ask for 8mb but the line can't support it?

Currently I have 1mb on Pipex, I can upgrade to 8mb for the same money i am paying now. I plan to do this but I know for a fact that the line won't support that but I wouldn't mind getting at least 2mb.

So what happens if I upgrade to 8mb ?

Will I get what the line can manage ? and stable? I dunno if i am making myself clear but would the line automatically adjust to the max speed or some engineer have to set it at a certain speed the line can handle and that will be that?

I rather have a stable 2mb line than a crappy 4mb line.

I assume the 8mb is MAX?

If so it'll be whatever you can get, and if you experience drop outs etc etc they can set your profile to 2mb, I think anyway.
