I connected my spare sata hard drive to a system that already has an active operating system on it? The spare sata drive also has win xp on it from a previous pc with a different mobo which I really don't wish to use. I am only after transferring some old files so a reformat is out of the question, at least until I recieve the files I want. Thank you.

It will ask you which one you want to boot.

Actually it will say select either

'Windows XP or
Windows XP'

which isnt really much help!

I had wondered about that it's just that I was under the impression there could be a conflict as the second (spare drive) was installed on a completely separate system, for example Asrock dual vsta, whilst the system I would be adding it to is using a gigabyte ds3p. Sorry if this sounds confusing. :)

it wouldn't conflict because your main hdd is pluged in port 1 right? port 1 is the bootup

Presumably I would then be able to format the second sata from the first one once I had copied over the files I needed?
