what would happen if ?

i sprayed a can of cold compressed air through my intake fan ?
would it cause any damage to components ?
just wondered thats all

As long as the computer is off and the can of air is the right way up you should have no problems.

and make sure its actually through the fan otherwise it might start spinning up!

Used compressed air trying to clear the intake fans on my old laptop rather than take it apart, couldn't get the nozzle quite through the grills and when i sprayed the fan span up to ridiculous speeds! Made a huge whinning noise as it maxed out!!

No damage done though, until my missus at the time stood on the laptop and cracked the screen

I use compressed air to clean my pc as do my flatmates, no problems. Try to use it in short bursts and let the can warm up between shots as it'll cool pretty rapidly because of the expansion. (pV=nRT anyone...)

You don't really want water condensing on the can (on on any bits of your comp) as it could then potentially get into the pc

hold the blades when you spray , you really dont want to spin your fan up

Compressed air is a massive rip off and completely unnecessary imo, a good quality hog-hair brush and then simply hoover up the dust once it has settled in the bottom of the case!!
I have used both methods and as good fun as it is to use compressed air I found the brush and hoover method FAR more efficient and effective at cleaning and removing dust from inside a computer!!
Plus it's shed loads cheaper!!

Yeah it isn't cheap.

I paid nearly £16 for 2 cans the other week.

I have used both methods and as good fun as it is to use compressed air I found the brush and hoover method FAR more efficient and effective at cleaning and removing dust from inside a computer!!
Plus it's shed loads cheaper!!

I'll have to try that method.

I've always been afraid of hoovering inside the PC case in case I accidentally suck up an electrical component but I suppose this is unlikely if you are careful when brushing and hoovering up.
