What would have happened if the terror plot was not foiled?

I've just been thinking, what would have happened if the terror plat to blow up planes over the Atlantic went ahead?

Imagine if we all woke up yesterday with the news that 8 planes had been blown up?

What would the state of the country currently be? What would the public's reaction be in your opinion?

(I presume you mean another one really..)

I thought he meant the shoulder launched missile that hit the MI5 building a few yearas ago, which only "failed" because of the strength of the building etc.......

Perhaps he is talking about something else, or maybe just a conspirary theorist.

When will people understand that the police/govt are not in a position to just sit back and do nothing if they have any info pertaining to a threat.

Imagine the following:

A chancer with a shoulder launched rocket fires at an aircraft on take off and gets a lucky hit, causing the 747 with 380 passengers on board to crash into a village killing a further 100.

It then comes out after 2 weeks that MI5 received a warning about an algerian group with access to a weapon of some kind planning on bringing down an aircraft, but did nothing about it.

There would be outcry, and rightly so.

Yes, putting light tanks at the airport was obviously a show of force, but rightly so!!

And if it was acceptable then why isn't acceptable the rest of the time? Any successful attack will likely happen when there is no prior warning.

No doubt the current "no hand baggage" rule will be reverted in a couple of weeks time. No longer a security threat? I doubt it.

There is a big difference between a show of force for a short time and a permanant military presence...........

If police get a report of a gunman at a shopping centre, they would send armed police there. However, the armed police would not stay forever.........

Because I asked what people think would happen if planes were blown up, not if people think this was a real threat or faked.

Just to show the difference, I once had a transfer at some airport in the middle east, and the security guy wasn't even looking at the screen as people passed their hand luggage through it, the guy at the xray didnt stop anyone when it beeped as people went through, and when the queue got too long, he just waived people to go around it

I guess islamic terrorists aren't going to blow stuff up in the Middle East though.
