What would I need to cool these GPUs to an overclockable state?

Hiya,

I want to overclock my GPUs but they are VERY hot.

I have two EVGA GTX 570 HD 2560mbs.

Would a single 240 Monsta (80mm) cool them to a decent level in push/pull with 4 GTs (1850s)?

I was planning on buying a Nanoxia DS1 case, so I think that is the biggest Rad I can get. I was going to put that in the front for the GPU and another (lower profile, on a separate loop) 240 in the top for the CPU which I would also like to overclock.

Thanks,

G (WC noob)

the larger and thicker the bigger

if 240mm is the largest you can fit then make sure you get the thickest rad you can too

I think the much better option if you don't mind having a rad external would be to get the 1080 phobya rad.

Woah that is MENTAL! Didn't even know you could get a rad like that.

In all honesty I was hoping to have everything inside the case if at all possible.

No offence mate but it probably isn't worth wc'ing those. Would it not be better to sell up your rig and build a new one? Or at least keep the rig, sell the cards and get more up to date cards :)

I already had one of these cards and just bought another one :P

I am interested to see what I can get out of them. I won't be keeping them forever but I will be getting universal GPU blocks for this reason.

I figure if I can cool these well enough I will be able to cool anything newer even better when I can afford to.

It will cool them if you crank the fans up to full, but it depends what you are after.

They won't overheat on the cores if you are going for universal, but remember with universal you still need to keep the memory and other components on the gfx card cool.

One thing watercooling won't do for you is keep your room cool, the heat being pumped out by the cards is the same amount of heat as when they werent watercooled and that heat still has to go somewhere, it'll go into the air in the room, so it'll get hot especially this time of year, so make sure you have good ventilation in the room.

It also wont' be very quiet, to get a 240 rad no matter what thickness to cool down a couple of 570's running at full tilt will require the fans to be running pretty fast.

But bearing that in mind, they will most likely be fine and not mentally overheat.

If I got 2 monstas and had one loop with the CPU in it instead of 2 would it help? I'm hoping the sound proofing on the case will help keep the noise down a bit.

The case and the fans arrive tomorrow so I will get a decent indication of noise levels. I wonder if there is a db meter iPhone app for some rough figures lol

Two radiators would help, it depends on what load you put on the system and how long you run it at full pelt. The heat has to go somewhere, but having more/bigger radiators means you would have to run the fans at high speed.
