... Other than a different monitor.

I should be in a position to upgrade in December/ January and am wanting to jump to 4k.

I'm currently using a Predator x34 monitor, Palit 1070ti, 3930k at stock, 16gb ddr3 and a Samsung 960 evo 500gb. I'll be flogging the monitor to offset the cost of a 4k display.

I mostly game on my pc, stuff like pubg and war thunder, but want to teach myself video and photo editing while Im layed up at home recovering.

So guys if I say a budget of £2k what do you guys recommend? Only caveat is I want to stay ultra wide above 27" minimum if possible

Ultrawide 4k? LG do a 5k model 34WK95U-W but it's only 60Hz and costs a bit. Then you are going to need a 2080Ti, so that's about £2.5kish

The only thing I'd add is you really want an IPS monitor for the colour reproduction if you want to get into photo editing. The issue is the good ones are £2k+ on their own..

Do you have space for 2 monitors ? Maybe just get a standard 4K monitor for Video/Photo editing and keep the X34 for gaming.

TBH the only thing you need is a new monitor, I was 4K gaming for 2 years with an ASUS Strix 1070 8gb non OC model, and was getting 60 fps on my 4K monitor in games like BF1 etc, before I changed it a few weeks ago for an ASUS Strix Vega 64, the 1070Ti is more than capable of running 4K at 60Hz, and CPU and RAM don't really come into play much at 4K resolution, so the ones you have now should suffice.

Im using this monitor: https://www.asus.com/uk/Commercial-Monitors/PB287Q/
If im not happy with the frame rate, then I just drop the resolution to 1440p, but still have the option for 4K available to me for other games.

The Video editing is another story, I cant comment on that as I don't do it.

Fair enough, sadly not enough space for two monitors. I'm either going to have to compromise on size or wait until 4k monitors with decent hz become more affordable as it looks like a tall order with 2k.

So far high refresh rate panels have been basically limited to 2560x1440 and there's very little development for above 60 Hz 3840x2160 displays.
Though there were supposed to be some plans for such panels by AUO (AU Optronics) and LG.Display, so maybe we'll get some releases in CES.

There are a couple of 27" 144Hz 4K monitors but they are both in excess of £2K.

Are you ok?

Anyways. Why are you going from an awesome monitor to 4K with less frames? If it’s just content creation a 1440p colour calibrated monitor would be fine, and you wouldn’t need a new card.

27" 16:9 would be downgrade from 30" 16:10, so can't consider there having been much development.
Rate of advance in displays is really rather miserable.

To be honest like I've said I think ultimately I'm going to wait to go 4k if a decent monitor alone is over my budget.

Think I may stick with my original plan of upgrading my cpu, mobo and ram to get the most out of my other hardware and also use the old stuff to go into a HTPC or selling it to offset the costs a bit.

I was referring to your point about the refresh rate. Those are the only two options if you want more than 60Hz and 4K.

the 1070Ti is more than capable of running 4K at 60Hz,.

If you're just watching video and the like a GTX 1030 can fully do 4k at 60Hz.
If you're gaming a 1080ti can't stay at 60 fps at 4k at high settings in most graphically rich modern games.
I guess if you lower the settings enough a 1070ti would do 60fps at 4k, but then you may as well have stayed at a lower resolution and used higher settings.
