What would I need to spend?

I have an AGP Mobo and have a 128mb ATi 9550 in there at the moment.

I only play Half Life 2 and it struggles at 1280x1024.

What card would do this without breaking a sweat, and make it look pretty?

I'm happy to go s/h, so if you think something older would be good then fine - I'll keep an eye out for one on a well known auction site

lol 1280x1024 on a 9550

Anyway, both my 9800PRO & X700 can handle HL-2 at 1280x1024 with some decent FPS. Say CAN because the better the card the more details the game turns on. So, I reduce res to 1024x768 to enjoy the eye candy at even higher FPS

Also, helps if you give a budget

EDIT: Look out for 6600GT should be cheap & fly

Well, the budget is as little as possible really - I'd prefer to get something s/h, and could probably go up to £50 plus whatever i'd get for my 9550 (£3.25 probably lol)

i run HL2 at that resolution on an AGP ati radeon 9000, seems to work ok

Look out for any of 9800XT, 6600GT, X800GT, X800GTO, X1600pro.

You can get both Club 3D and Aopen Aeolus Geforce 6600GTs from a competitor site for about £75 inc. VAT, obviously I am not allowed to link that site here but they're out of stock here and you should be able to find them easily enough. My Chaintech 6600GT used to play Half Life 2 in pretty rox0r detail, very well-coded game.
