This is my setup at present, two computers sharing an adsl 4 LAN port modem/ router all of which are upstairs, with the phone cable running downstairs to the BT master socket under the stairs. What I'd like to do is move the modem/router downstairs next to the master socket and run a single LAN cable upstairs to the computers. The thing is how would I connect both computers so they both share the internet access and my printer also I want to be able to transfer files between the two PC's. I'm a total noob at networking. if it's important both PC's are running Windows 7 and the nmodem/router is a Micradigital 802.11g ADSL modem with wireless router.
What would I need?

You would need a switch upstairs,

A standard 100meg one would be fine, but that gigabit one is so cheap.
