This thread is sort of a "go wild" thread but also a build recommendation thread at the same time :D

Looking at getting a build at around this cost in the summer, and have it mainly planned out, but i was wondering what you guys would build with the money. It's for gaming at high resolutions (2560x1600/3240x1920) but also any other random stuff i find myself doing, which can come toe high res photo editing, video rendering, 3d rendering, you name it :D.

this is my personal choice of components: Try to stick around it, but you can always change something.

The case i have chosen is the Silverstone FT02 as it faces the right direction for where it is being placed, it is unique as well as looking nice at the same time.

i7 4770k. Yeah it's not out yet, but soon will be :D

32GB RAM. the more the merrier.

not sure which GPU's to get at the moment. Can go either way, but 7970GHz crossfire seems the most price/performance, but it may be easier fitting 680's in the FT02 with a radiator and fans.

Everything fully watercooled.

Revodrive 3 x2 960GB... no need for hard drives as getting a NAS for data. SSD is the way to go, and 960 is enough for programs, games and local files for me. No wires is a very big plus, and it's set up off the bat with RAID and has awesome theoretical speeds. £200~ more than RAID 0 480GB's but with the pro's above it looks quite promising :S

lets go! :D

Nope, i have 3x u2311H in portrait, but possibly replacing them for a single u3014 later on for a bit more efficiency, performance and compatibility. You could put some decent 2.1 speakers and a soundcard in though i don't mind if it goes over by a few hundred. I already have a d2X so it may seem like a waste to get another, but i'm trying to focus this build on as little cables as possible.

Don't need an OS as i got windows 8 upgrade when it was on offer, and have a copy of each OS from my uni's dreamspark premium.

Dual 7950s - I think going to 7970s is £100+ extra for about 10% performance - a waste of money.
RAID SSDs - if you feel like they are slow then maybe pick a REVO drive up, but RAID SSDs should give similar speeds.
Socket X79 - the reason I've done this is because you can pick it up now and then upgrade to IVY-E when it appears - although if you want to stick to Haswell I understand, and you can just use my processor/mobo selection as placeholders.

You're a student??? Wish I could afford to spend £2500 on my computer as a student :o can barely get the funds together to buy games these days, and even less time to play them cause of all the work :o

edit - I know nothing about watercooling so didn't spec a loop - someone else will no doubt come along and do one for you :)

:D Yeah, luckily i'm living at home and get about 1k per term more than i actually use, so it ends up piling up. Plus i work during the summer and hardly go out :P I have a load of games to play that i bought on the steam sale that i'm looking to play in the summer.

I don't actually need a bluray drive as i already have one i can reuse, but you other choices are pretty good. About the Sandy-E, i heard that it may possibly be skipped and replaced with x99 hasswell-E at the end of the year from a leak, so i wasn't sure which way to go.
