Or as the system is primarily for gaming you could upgrade your current video card first then do the cpu/mobo/ram upgrade at a later date (although in all likelihood you will be very slightly cpu bottlenecked). One advantage of getting the cpu/mobo/ram first would be you could add a,cheap second hand 5850 if your current board doesn't support Xfire.

current board is ip35-e and 2 of the sata ports are broken, purchased a shuttle to put that cpu in so it will live on for few years as a spare pc.

are the stock coolers ok to oc with or do they suck/or loud?

The mobo doesn't do SLI/Xfire. Not sure how much of an issue that is for you but it did allow for more RAM :)

This. Assuming you have a 64bit OS.

Ivybridge does run hotter than sandybridge. If you are serious about OC'ing a good budget cooler would make sense so.....

Seeing as adding RAM will be an easier upgrade than swapping the heatsink, this is certainly an option. Although the mobo doesnt do SLI/Xfire you do get lucid MVP still which will provide a boost in performance for your 5850 GPU.

EDIT I have no idea what case you have so please check the heatsink will fit before ordering. The gelid is smaller than the corsair A50 which is another budget heatsink fav here.

No idea why anyone would even consider Bulldozer for a desktop PC. It's a massive letdown. Only one way to go at the moment and that's intel. Just hope AMD come up with something good soon or intel will start to put their prices up....
