ok im on my first c2d overclock, ive managed 3.2Ghz from the E6300, with 2gb of 10th anniversary, in a PC7+case with the Tuniq Tower. Im getting 51-51 degrees C in TAT under full load in Orthos, with the cpu fan set to auto, and about 38ish at idle, ive 5volt modded both case fans so there silent.

how long on Orthos on the blend test to call stable, 1hour? 4hours? not bringging an error up runnin for days?

Cheers
Marshall

12 Hours Orthos blend(priority 9-10) is usually enough for me,although some people like to leave it longer

higher priorities can be misleading in that they take valuable timer space from fundamental xp files that needs to run to hold the system up, resulting in lock ups.

OC wise I have never noticed a higher or lower failure point between priorities, and that with some pretty heavy clocks.

Of course you are free to use what you wish, right now OCCT is a good alternative to Orthos if you fancy something different.

1hr Orthos is good enough for me, if it passes that I'll run a 24hr when I can be bothered.

Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for anyone's system dying because they only did 1hr. I am reckless. :D

I would call a system stable if it can run through 3D Marks 03 or 06 several times in a row, pass 300% (or 3 complete cycles) of memtest or memtest86+ and do atleast a couple of hours... if its a PC you use everyday then it wouldn't harm to give it a good 8+ hour priming...

Generally I've found that for every 10% (or part of a 10%) that you have the CPU overclocked you should add 2 hours to your priming time* as the further you have it overclocked the more its stressing the components and the more likely it will trip weak points... tho personally I've never had a system that was unstable not trip inside 30minutes priming or first 200% of memtest, so far anything that will manage that will manage 24+ hours of testing.

*2.4gig @ 2.64 = 2 hours priming, 2.4gig @ 3gig = 5 hours priming

As my friend coolasmoo said stable is when you have the balls to flash your bios at the oc... try superpi'ing your way to that....
