What would you change in the game?

Quite simple, what would you choose to change in the game? Can be anything you like, say the ticket office, media, club management, terraces, penalties etc etc..

Here’s mine:

Bring onside offside

Reinstate the old offside ruling. How on earth did it comes that we need debate if a player on the pitch is passive or not? Off side is offside and that’s it. If your on the pitch, you’re surely always active because the there’s a likelihood that such a player may be drawing the attention of a defender away from an attacking situation. It was difficult enough to explain the old offside rule to people but nearly impossible to explain now. I don’t think even the officials have grasped it yet.

Abolish Injury time

Take a leaf from Rugby and allow the team medic on the pitch and allow play to continue. You’ll be surprised at just how many players would then stop feigning injury and will want to continue, They say there’s no “natural “stoppage in the game but who’s kidding who when you’re adding 5 minutes of injury time? If Fifa want the game to flow, get rid of injury time and allow play to continue when a player goes down. Manchester Utd and Arsenal would object to this of course.

Standing room only

Bring back standing terraces. I can’t see how seating is any safer than standing. It’s cramped, uncomfortable and awkward. My knees are normally knocking on some poor chap ear lobes in front. Clubs would benefit from extra capacity and atmosphere. We have a better understanding of public safety now days so providing numbers are controlled and limited then there’s surely no reason not to allow this.

Squad numbers and names

Quite simply, let the players earn their right to wear numbers 1 through 11. Most of us (well older memebrs anyway) can relate to past players wearing the Liverpool number 7 down the years, for example. A tradition that will slowly vanish.

Pension off Martin Tyler

I know most of you will disgree with this but his endless drivel, protracted silences and often discuss games not relevant to what’s in front of him drives me nuts. Mute the TV and listen to BBC radio commentary. Better quality imho.

Not standing. I had friends and family at H'borogh that day.

.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to cause any offense but without going into the reasons behind that day, we have a much better understanding and infrastructure in place today then we did then. We don't have fences, policing and security is better. Crowds are controlled, ticket availably and arrangements are stricter. As I said, providing is regulated, controlled and limited then I can't see it being a problem.

Have you watch ITV's Football coverage?

It's absolutely terrible. I'd like to see all of the broadcasters improve, by improve I mean hire people who have opinions and are not treading the company line, who aren't idiots as well would be good.

Oh i see what you mean now.. I mis-read the "I" in ITV. Yep was never happy since they accidentally cut to a break in the middle of game then came back and a goal had been scored.. Not sure which game that was now.. FA Cup .. Liverpool -v- Everton?? Might be wrong :D

and adrian chiles - wha a **** :D

On the subject of TV coverage, ITV, Channel 5 & ESPN are all **** poor.

Wish Sky just had the rights to everything tbh. The Beeb aren't that bad though I guess.

beeb are miles better than Sky in terms of production and presentation. Sky tend to follow individual players and the dug out rather than what's going on in the game on and off the ball. They've nearly missed a gaol or two whilst they focus on the managers reaction to a near miss or refs decision.. And Martin Tyler is a ****.

The system of buying tickets.

Not tickets in general (as that would be mental), I mean having to attend x amount of games the previous season to be able to buy tickets for games, should be aseason tickets, then general sale.

I hate all this become a member crap, to then have the scraps left.

Even being a member doesn't guarantee you tickets. I'm a bronze member at spurs and there's a limited window for members to buy tickets online on the "on sale" dates. Games are often sold out in a few hours.. If you forget then you're left disappointed. There's a loyalty point system at Spurs which is cairried over from season to season. Away games to Arsenal, Chelsea etc.. are limited to season ticket holders really. They notrmally buy them, then sell them.. I know quite a few who do this.. I wanted away ticket for Norwich this year.. Didn't get a sniff!

I agree to a degree. But what if someone goes down in the six yard box... or the keeper goes down? Or its a bit more serious.

Stoppages will still occur. Do you then stop time?

Like Rugby, when time is up then the game ends as soon as the ball is out of play.. If a defender tactically knock it out of play, then so be it.

It's always been on at that time due to pubs closing at that time in the past? iirc.

Correct. The days to get home before MOTD or at least you hoped the Mrs could figure out which button to push down on the VHS machine.. BetaMax of course :D.

That wasn't my point. I understand the concept.

It's more to do with serious injuries where stopping the game is essential. Do you also stop time or allow it to tick away?

Tick away is hardly the words i'd use. Merely allowing the game to continue.. Providing he's receiving treatment on the pitch it doesn't matter.. The team will be a man short.. but they they would be under the current system anyway so it makes no different.. All you get is players standing around. No logic in that .. carry on!
