choosing a lens for street and cant decide. I was wondering what focal length you would choose for street photography out of:

olympus 12mm F2.0 (24mm) or 17mm F1.8 (34mm)

Thats what I thought...and 24mm would be just a little to wide.I didn't want to make the wrong choice. as it isn't that cheap for what it is £399.00

thanks for your input ;)

I quite like the wider angle. I like to find a composition in the enivronment, get close up but still be able to fit it all in frame and then wait for the subject to fall within it. It feels a little less creepy to me than longer focal lengths for this kind of thing :)

Don't forget to post your Street shots here of course :)

As soon as I figure out these menus on this thing. never seen so many user options on a camera. if and when it stops raining, I will be out and about. Im thinking of a day trip to London, so with a bit of luck I will have something worth posting ;)

you mean less like stalking lol;)
I do like the perspective or view the 28mm gives, but I think ill keep two more foot steps back with 34mm. Then if it turns sour I might get away

For me, 28 and 35mm are largely the same for my uses in street, however I find I frame a lot looser and more spontaneously with a 28mm. The 28mm's distortion also means that there's often more 'pull' in the frame too, but it's harder to avoid keystoning compared to 35mm. 24mm equiv is pretty nice and probably the widest I'd go for street since distortion can still be somewhat controlled, keeping things natural looking. I've done street with a 20mm before and I feel that the lens ends up dictating the shot more than I'd like to. It's a hard lens to control. Out of the two you suggested, I'd go for the 17mm.

I need some more glass. Only have a 50mm and the kit lens but I want to get out around London for some shots.
