if you bought something from overclockers, or anywhere for that matter, and the item was listed as b-grade - what would you expect to recieve if you ordered a b-grade motherboard for example?

Something that works fully but may have some kind of minor cosmetic damage. It could be like new just a returned uynwanted item.

what would you expect to come along with the motherboard though? cd? cables? back plate? stickers? manual? box? screws? etc?

or would you just expect to recieve the motherboard on it's own in bubble wrap?

Ah sorry didn;t read properly, with amotherboard it could be missing screws or something. Give them a call and they might be able to tell you why its B Grade.

That is a very good question...I've not thought about it because I've never considered buying B grade stuff...don't know why...probably because I'm too scared of finishing up with a 'lemon'.
Be interesting to see the answers...

nothing apart from mobo. B-grade can be main item only. But it would be rare to get nothing at all.

acidhell, thats exactly what i got. when i had phoned to check what b-grade meant, the guy told me it could be a damaged box, come without a manual, cd's or cables. but when i got the item delivered today it was the motherboard on it's own, with no box, backplate, cd, manual etc

i wouldn't have minded so much if there was maybe one or 2 things that arent'e neccessary included, but i'm a bit dissapointed that i only got the mother board.

my pc now won't have a back plate to use, which isn't a great concern cos i don't see the back of the pc, but i'd at least have expected to get a bit more than the board itself.

You can usually tell by the price. The cheaper it is the less it comes with or the more cosmetic damage it has. But no a b-grade doesn't have to come with anything at all.

Yep, bought myself an Abit mobo with sli onboard etc for £35. Bargain. especially as its only for a home server. Been running fine for months now, and the mobo is all I got too. Would have liked the IO backplate too. But hey, it was cheap.

My B-grade m/b was also just the m/b, no bits. But I'd assumed that anyway and it was to replace an existing board, so I wasn't worried. The only bit I would have liked is the backplane template. It would nice if the link said what came with each item, but I appreciate that that would take forever to keep updated.

Usual rule: hope for the best but expect the worst.

Got a b-grade dfi board a few years ago, came bubble wrapped with nothing else, not even the karajan audio module, fortunately I had a spare sound card though.

This is exactly why OCUK should list everything that the item comes with. Other online retailers do it so why not OCUK?

Hi all,

From a functionality perspective a B-Grade motherboard should be, and you should expect it to be, 100% functional, delivered usually in a plain box with little if anything else.

Unfortunately, the motherboard manaufacturers do not generally ship B-Grade motherboards, which can be are either new or reconditioned boards, with any other items i.e. instructions, connectors, backplates etc.

By the very nature of our business we sell 100's of motherboards a day, a number of which will be B-Grade, what we cannot easily do is clearly define the exact variations between different B-Grades of the same product - thus I refer to Meridian's comment - "Usual rule: hope for the best but expect the worst" - assume you will get a Mobo in a brown box - anything more is a bonus....especially for £0.12 :)

Cheers

cheers RTB, i assume you are an oc employee, if so do you know where i could get a backplate for an Abit IP35 Pro that i bought as b-grade from yourselves that was delivered yesterday (paid £47 for it)

I've bought a few B Grade items, usually just come in a brown box and just the item. My old 5950 came with everything but the box was a bit mangled.
If it's cheap then I don't really mind, wouldn't buy B Grade if it was similar pricing to new though. (Which it often is  )

The 12p motherboard above, lol. :D

Sorry, have to disagree with you there. A lot of the stuff, especially mobo's, in the B grade section at OCUK are close to, or even identical to the new item prices. Going by what you said we could pay close to the full price and not expect any of the accessories. Other online retailers, some as big as and some bigger than OCUK still take the time to list what is supplied even if it is just four categories. For example, one retailer uses the following system:-

Category 1 = Board in plain box with no accessories.
Category 2 = Board with driver disc.
Category 3 = Board with Driver Disc and manual.
Category 4 = Board with driver disc, manual and all accessories.

They do this for every single board and even state if the board was a customer return, manufacturer refurbished board or manufacturer replacement board.

At least people would know exactly what they are getting and be prepared to pay more according to the level of completeness. A lot of them also give you a 90 day warranty with the retailer as well.

it's best to call the shopand ask them what it is that is b grade about the item; as it varies.
