If you were approaching this roundabout from the bottom right hand entrance, and wanted to take the second exit (top) which lane would you choose?? Note the entrance is 2 lanes wide and exit is single lane.

I take this road every day, and let's just say there is often a 'debate' between me and other drivers as to which is the correct lane to be in :p.

Left hand lane as i can't see any arrows on the end of the dual carriage way to incicate which lane to be in. However it does look like they wanted the left hand lane to be a filter lane for the first exit but never painted the arrows.

Well personally I always take the left lane, and thought that was the correct thing to do with it only being the second exit and being indicated at '12 o'clock' on the sign.

The only reason I ask is the amount of times I have people zoom behind me in the right lane, pull up alongside and then try to pull in on top of me is unreal. Nearly had a big merc people carrier take me out this evening .

The correct thing is Left lane for turning left or going straig over the roundabout. Right lane is only for turning right.

Its in the highway code.

I would agree completely..

Left lane for straight on when two lanes in and one exit
I think people may get confused because it is actually more like 2 o'clock, even though it is the second exit.

Anyway thanks guys just wanted a sanity check to be sure I wasn't doing something fundamentally wrong at roundabouts :D

nah you got in an argument with someone and you want your decision to be justified really eh? am i right or am i right? or is that left...
No, I didn't get into an argument with anyone. I just tend to toot my horn and flash my lights and get generally irate when somebody nearly crashes into me, and wanted to know if it was genuinely my fault or his.

Not necessarily the highway code simply says select the appropriate lane for exits other than left or right. Taking into account road markings and signage.

Not always the left hand lane for straight on.

iirc if you have to pass 2 exits before your exit then you should use the right hand lane, if your exit is the 1st or 2nd then use the left, it doesn't matter how far around you have to go to get to your exit.

:D
