What would you do in my situation?

Hi Guys!

I've just had to completely dismantle my water cooled TJ07 so that I could clean out all the blocks of dye seperation grrrrr THANKS Feser One!!!

I've just realised that if I wanted to upgrade...well now would be the time before I re-assemble the rig and fill it!

Here are my specs:

i5 750 @ 4.2Ghz (HeatKiller 3.0)
MSI GD65 P55 Mobo
4GB G.Skill 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM (@ 1680)
ASUS EAH5870 1GB
Silverstone TJ07
Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24"
Various high-end soundcards

Now - my issue has always been the 5870 is a good card but not quite powerful for my needs as I like to run the latest and greatest graphics cards and when the GTX 480 came out and was quite a lot faster I was pretty gutted.

Would you:

A) Grab another 5870 off ebay for some Crossfire?
B) Sell 5870 and use money to fund a GTX 580?

The only other thing is that I run a second rig based around a Silverstone SG03 case and it also needs a graphics upgrade (running a 4890 on a 32" LCD @ 1080p TV). Anyone know if a 5870 would fit in a SG03???!!!

Thanks for your advice in this matter guys!

Tom

580 is a cracking card and I would recommend it over a dual GPU setup which have their own drawbacks compared to a single GPU. AMD have cards coming out on the 13th of December, I would wait and see what they are like before deciding what purchase to make.

Well, I sold my 5970 to get a gtx 580 which only costed £10 more.

If you're not in a rush then I would until next month to see what amd has to offer.

Sorry forgot to mention my PSU

Corsair 850W HX

Oblivion (highly modded - brings my system to its knees @ 1920x1200)
Starcraft 2
TF 2
Red Faction Guerilla

So do you think I will notice micro-stuttering if I was to buy another 5870 like I did with my old 4870X2 card? I got rid of that in favour of a 285GTX which I MUCH preffered....

i did not get any micro stutter with crossfired 5830's , so you should not with crossfired 5870's .
but i would wait to see what amd's offering is like , supprised that you dont get good performance with that setup tbh

Well I guess the point is my Sugo needs a graphics upgrade and I really want to know whether or not I should sell on my 5870 or take the block off it and put it in my Micro-ATX rig.

I'm moving in with the mrs soon and cant really justify taking my TJ07 as its monolithic so I'm a bit confuddled as to what to do!!!

I would wait until Cayman and Antilles hits the shelves before doing anything at all. If I wasn't satisfied with the results then I would sell the 5870 and put the funds towards a 580.

Waiting without a system until the 13th sounds like quite a wait to me, so i would sell the 5870 and grab a 580 gtx and still be happy whatever happens on the 13th.

I'd either sell your 5870, then just use your 4890 based system until the new AMD cards are out, or, sell your 4890, put your 5870 in the small PC, then wait for the new AMD cards.

Either way, it's best to sell your 5870 block off now too.

^ This sounds like a good move to me.

Welcome to the "we hate Feser one" club by the way. Bloody stuff is terrible. Same happened to myself and quite a few other's on here. If you want colour it's best to just use coloured tubing with Distilled/De-ionised water and a silver kill coil or an additive such as Primochill Liquid Utopia (does'nt cloud tubing).
