After my previous thread on getting line stats from a WAG54GV1 i thought i might as well connect this up and get some line stats from it to compare with the cisco 1700 with dsl expansion card i'd got the stats from before.

The cisco reads my downstream att as 60, the WAG pretty much agreeing at 59.

I am getting a difference however on the downstream SNR, the cisco reports an SNR of 12, which is saying to me that i should stick on the 1mbit fixed rate package i am currently on, as max probably wouldnt have anything to offer this line. The WAG is reporting 21 though!? I sync'ed and resync'ed and it is still showing this.

Question is which router to believe, my head says that the cheapy linksys is probably just wrong, but would you give max a go anyway with these stats?

Probably give it a go.

It's quite possible neither are wrong though. Different chipsets, different bit allocations...

Its just the possible downtime and the regrade fee which i dont want to have to put up with if its unlikely to make any difference. I also risk getting an even lower sync rate than 1mbit if my line really is keeling over at 1152 with the cisco's reported SNR.

I dont know much about dsl chipsets, i was under the impression that a line would have a certain SNR at a certain sync rate, regardeless of chipset? :)

For a fixed frequency yes. When the reported SNR margin is an average across a whole range (with the range being decided by the chipset), no.

It's highly unlikely you'd get less, even at the lowest SNR.

3 Regrading service

Here goes nothing, eclipse doing free regrades it seems so it would have been rude not to.

Went for option 3 evolution, meaning my monthly payment will not change. I use at most around 50GB down and a few GB upstream, so hopefully they wont mind me not being on the top tier.
