Been working in IT support roles for 4 years now, im 22, worked for 4 companies and gone from a starting 15k-20k in that time. I worked as a school tech - field engineer - Helpdesk - support analyst.

None of these roles has made me happy, and im having to commute for 2 hours a day everyday. Im not exactly setting the career ladder on fire, and feel im just sidestepping each time i move on.

Now, i dont know how much potiential i have in IT, im technically competant at my level, but bored stiff and do not enjoy my job. The people are nice, and the office environment is great.

However, i have been offered a Managment role in my father's company, starting on the basic rate of 20k + Company car/benefits. He has stated that he would want to pass the company on after a few years, and take a back seat. So, i could walk into a job with great prospects, 45 min daily commute, and a career for life(perhaps)

Now, am i being foolish even considering not taking this? There is this nagging feeling that im being fed a silver spoon, and there will be much resentment from current staff. I get on with them all on a social side, but dont know what to expect if i came into the company in a managment role when i worked in a unrelated field?

OCUK, help me think this through!

Go for it

Do it and don't look back.

With the exception of the job opportunity (i.e. - the good bit!) I'm in exactly the same position as you right now - bored!! :(

So I say go for it because I would take it in a heartbeat :p

From what you're saying then the only reason why it is better the the benefits and the shorter commute. If you feel you can do the job then why not?

I'd say go for it to.

Why turn down a good opportunity, its not a decision you absolutely have to stick to forever either.

That sounds like a great deal to me dude. The money's what you're on now, and rising, and you get to take over in future. You're set for life as long as, as someone else said, you're ready to commit to it, because you wouldn't want to let your dad down.

I wish I had this decision to make!

Go for it IMO.

What type of business is it that your dad runs, is it something you are interested in / can get your teeth into?
