I hate being put in "difficultly easy" situations.

Basically, my mates and I were going to watch the England game down the pub tonight. Found out this morning that one of my mates has Pneumonia, now he wants us all to go round his house for the game instead with promises of free food and drink.

I know Pneumonia isn't contagious, but if hes coughing every few seconds i'm going to be paranoid the whole time im there. To be honest i'd rather go to the pub and get some nice pub food anyway, i dunno what hes got his house, but his mum is apparently making food (probably good but still).

Another reason to not go is that he lives quite a long walk away, and getting a lift back from his place might be difficult (not sure hes actually insured on a car atm, he passed his driving test today). The pub on the other hand, is IN my street.

Hes been calling me and sounds desparate, keeps trying to get us to go round his house. You see, usually he comes round one of our houses, simply cause nobody wants to go miles away... its always a hassle for him to get home too (since if its dark, you really need to get driven home, no street lights or paths to walk on really).

I need to some how not go, without making him feel bad, or his mum who probably assumes will definatly go round.

You know you can still die from pneumonia?

Go around and see him you miserable bugger, if you were lying around ill and unable to go out, you'd appreciate it if your mates came to you.

You say he always makes the effort to come miles to see you guys, so return the favour. :)

No, I'm not going to give you excuses not to go see him. If you don't want to go, just tell him, don't come up with some crap like "oh...the goldfish died"...or similar.

Go see him!

He makes the effort for you - about time you returned the favour!

If you're really bothered about him being ill, see him for a little while and leave for the game - explaining your fears over catching it. He obviously really wants to see you though!

Who said Pneumonia isn't contagious

The OP :)

I read up on it on Wikipedia as soon as he mentioned it :)

but would you really want to be trapped in a small room with someone who had Pneumonia?

Ill keep thinking im catching something, thats just me.

One time I thought i had breast cancer (im a male btw). Found a lump under my nipple one day when watching CSI...scared the crap out of me. Went to the doc the next day, turns out iwas an inflamed lymth gland or something... got some anti acne tablets while I was there...turned out being a good call going (delt with my spots).

Yeah he's wrong.

Where does it say its contagious?

Only the virus the victim has before catching pneumonia is contagious (the thing that weakened the immune system in the first place) to my knowledge (from reading up this morning)_

In itself it is not contagious. It is the source of infection that may be passed on that is, although this may not result in a transferred infection developing into Pneumonia.

EDIT As said above as well :D

the worlds greatest resource, but also the worst one to use if you need to be 100% on something - never use it as fact, and certainly never ever use it as a reference its sometimes an instant fail.

EDIT -

i can see how my last reply was a huge contradiction lol, what with it being slightly contagious and then me saying go round there to watch it...

He makes the effort all the time to go round to your houses/pub which is miles away from him so why not all go round to is for once while hes ill?

You could get an infection in the pub which might develop into it as well.

Go and see him you woosie ;)

I used wikipedia as a reference on one of my lab reports, even though it is looked down upon its not against the rules. Got a first btw :)

i got savagely marked down in one of my lab reports for using it, the part that i referenced was completely ignored as its not a credited source due to anyone being able to upload to it. different unis different rules i guess. congrats on the first :)

Did you list it as wikipedia though?

Surely if you use it you could just reference it as "Dr A. R. S. Hole" and make up a fictional book....no?
