Let's say someone is on £690 a week take home and only works 2 hours per night six days a week. Leaving his days free to sleep late, buy the latest PC hardware generally do whatever you want. However, after doing this for the past 2 years, he is getting a bit bored of sitting at home everyday.

Now he got offered a job that ups his wages to about £830, still six days a week. BUT, it's a 6am start and 5pm finish.

Realistically, what would you do?

I'd take a second job that still lets me work the first one and thus double my income to spend on the latest PC hardware.

EDIT: If you quit, can I have your old job?
EDIT2: You're not a gigolo, are you?

It's not worth the extra money for having to deal with the Columbians direct.

That'll up his sentence when he's caught.

Nah. I'm an Engineer Supervisor for a multinational. I'm soooo bored at home during the days. I might take that damn job and work 11 hours a day!

So you could get job satisfaction and a payrise?

Err...

[edit]Take-home pay, not hourly rate, obviously.

Get another hobby? Most people work there entire lives trying to shorten the amount of hours they work, so I wouldn't throw it away so easily mate.

I would keep first job, then find a hobby that makes money. Sell on flee bay. Or build stuff, depends what he likes doing. Or work in a pub, meet lots of people and usually flexible on shifts.

Not much of a pay raise considering all the extra hours. I'd keep that 1st job, it sounds like my dream job to be honest.

If you're bored get a second job, earn some more cash but keep the 1st one. Or if you're really bored volunteer somewhere... charities are always looking for people.

It depends what you want out of life. I would rarther work shorter hours and get payed less and have more free time. Likewise I would rarther do a job I enjoy and get payed slightly less for that a high stress one which pays more. Its all depends on where you priorities lie. I can think of loads of things I want to learn/do but find it hard to fit them all in.

I think my first priority would be to avoid posting willy-waving threads on an internet forum, tbh.

What took you so long?? You were supposed to come about 6 posts ago and start posting your usual crap. I'm sorry that you see £690 as a lot of money. When you live in London, it really isn't anything to "willy-wave" about. From what I've seen around these pages you've been added to quite a few "ignore" lists. Notch up another one big boy :D

Sorry, did I read this right?

12 hours a week for £50k a year (Gross)?

Asking if this person should pack it in? Yeah, pack it in and book themselves in for proper help.

You've got it all wrong - 690 pounds a week net pay for 12 hours work is not a lot, apparently ;)

Be careful, though - to suggest that it is will mean you end up on regulus's ignore list, which would be an obvious tragedy.
