in a predicament
i have a xfire enabled p5q pro board
at the mo i have a 260 core 216, obviously no hope of sli'ing due to board
do i, keep the 260 and stop browsing the 4870 deals
or sell the core 216 and go with ati and xfire 2 xfx 1gigs?

what would you do ?

well imo the 4870 and the 260 have roughly the same performance

If it was me i would sell the 260 put the rest of the money on a 4870 X2 and later in the year when X2 prices fall i would then XFIRE the 4870X2

The 4870X2 is a very nice Dual GPU 2GB card and would be cheaper than XFIRE 4870 and it gives you more freedom to upgrade.

My X2 + Current Sig Specs reaches upto 21,000 in 3dMark 06 with mild OC'ing

I agree with selling your current and getting a single 4870X2 but i disagree with getting two of them on that motherboard. Don't forget on the P5Q Pro when using both PCI-E slots in x-fire you only get x8 2.0 slots and as far as i know that bottlenecks the graphics cards performance and you lose a lot of the graphic cards potential.

You could just get the 4870X2 and in a couple of years when you need an upgrade buy a new mobo ect aswell. Doubt u would need to upgrade a X2 anytime soon anyway, Depends what you play and at what res.

Rostam is spot on there i cant believe i missed that.... the PCI-E will reduce its maximum capabilities but your in a catch 22 situation.
