Mum is getting a Golf GTI (08) on Monday. She's planning on part exchanging her 03 silver Toyota Celica (21k miles, they've offered 6.6k), however she asked me tonight if I wanted it :o

At the moment I have an 07 Corsa which i've only had a year, i'm a bit apprehensive about trading such a newish car for one so old (altohugh it had its MOT today and passed fine). I think I might struggle to drive it at times, parking especially, but I guess I'd get used to it?

Thoughts?

an 03 plate car is old? jesus!

Anyway, the Celica will be a much much better car then your corsa (what isnt better than a corsa :p) I would change.

Your worried about an 03 plate celica owned by your mum with 21k on the clock?

I'd go for it for sure if you like them.

Love Celicas myself and they have a fantastic reputation for reliability to boot.

What are you going to do with the Corsa if you take the celica, trade it for the golf?

Take the celica. 5 years is not old.

You'll probably get a shock on the depreciation of the Corsa if you can sell it at all at the moment, however the celica will be a better car.

You even have to ask?!

Tell us a bit more about the Celica anyway.

It's the Celica Coupe 1.8 VVT-i T-Sport 3dr. Leather seats, air con and all that jazz. I'm no car expert but I like it :)

It's just over five years old mate

I know, but to me that seems old :o

Not been decided yet, gonna have a proper look at the celica in the morning and take it out for a bit.

Take the Celica assuming the insurance isn't a problem. On different note why did your mum MOT a car two days before trading it in ?

Well she didn't plan on buying a new car. She had the MOT planned today and while she was waiting she popped across to have a look at VW, and the rest is history.

Insurance would be around £620 compared to the £370 i'll be shelling out on the insurance for my corsa next month.

It is not old. It is also better than your Corsa in every possible way. Unless you are completely skint and couldnt afford to run it, this is a complete no brainer. You have a chance to move out of a completely horrible car into a pretty good one.

It is a very good car. Age is nothing.. Just because your Corsa is newer, does not mean it is better, because it truly truly isn't.

Worth every penny tbh.

Hang on, are you doing a straight swap with your Corsa  or is £6600 extremely cheap for a celica or something?

Edit: Just checked Autotrader and there are loads of celicas for that price.
Even more confused now :o

Ok here is my thoughts. ITS NOT OLD!!!

And if you dont trade in a Crappy Corsa for a Celica then you have some serious problems and dont belong in motors.

Some of you people just dont under stand the meaning of Old:rolleyes:

The question here is not whether or not you like the car - it's a much better car than the corsa.

The question is whether the price (cost to change) is made good by them giving a good price on the trade in or a good price on the golf itself with an average trade in price.

Also, its nice to know the history of a car too. Lets be honest, your mum aint going to have ragged it and its got really low miles. The celica'll probably be a fantastic car for years and years to come and i wouldn't expect hardly any bills tbh.

As others have said and as i said earlier, you absolutely must get rid of your corsa for the celica.
