Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card soon and wondering what my best option would be. At the moment I've got a lowly HD3870, so my question is whether I'd be better getting a 4870 now and getting another for crossfire at xmas perhaps, or get a 4890 now and get another some time next year on the cheap for crossfire?

The more instant gratification factor is pushing me towards the 4890, as is the fact it will be a bit more future proof, but is the extra money worth it? Am I right in assuming that we might see the prices drop more sharply on the 4870 as the 4890 breaks into the market more?

On a side note (I've already asked in the general section but It's not much clearer) I would also have to upgrade my PSU either way, so any suggestions on that would be appreciated. Got a crappy 375w dell thing in there atm. It's a dell xps 420 and there are limitations on what I can use psu wise so if anyone can clarify it for me...

Thanks in advance

get the corsiar HX750 (who wouldn't) or PC power&cooling *crossfire edtion*

what res do oyu game at HD4870 are cheap as chips atm or you could get HD4770 in xfire and over clock them

My native resolution is 1920x1200. As for overclocking, I would probably be best to avoid that. Not sure how the cheapo dell components would stand up to it, or how well the case even ventilates.

The TX 650 is on offer so that's looking good for the psu, so what about the card?

Anybody else have any advice on the graphics card situation?

There's little point on me spending more than I have to, especially with the next generation of cards waiting in the wings.

Tbh a 4870 or 4890 would do you for now if you are waiting for the the new cards to be released , not a lot of diff between the 2 in my opinion but depends on what you are willing to spend.
i dont think the price of the cards will drop as the 4890 comes into the market more as its been in the market for a while now and both cards have dropped in price a fair bit anyway , the only time you will see the price drop on any of these cards now is when the new 5000 cards are released
