Evening all, just a little decision I need to make and was thinking I wonder what OcUK would do.
My brother's pc has slowly been falling behind in games and is considering upgrades, he has about £300 to spend but would rather spend as little as possible as quite frankly he racks up about 3 hours if that a week in gaming time and spending loads would be pointless. So his current spec is:
AMD X3 720BE 2.8ghz
some gigabyte mobo that I can't remember the name of
gtx 260
4gb 1333mhz RAM
520w corsair psu
20" monitor 1680x1050 res
Firstly he has no intention of changing his screen so no need to consider that. OC'ing is out of the question as I will not be around for long to fix any stability problems and he has little interest in pc's other than using them.
So, first option is to just switch the gpu which I'm thinking a gtx560ti or perhaps a 6950 or 6870 due to possible bottleneck.
Second is switch cpu to a faster quad and get a gpu.
I've mentioned replacing the whole lot but as I said he doesn't game much any more and it seems rather expensive for the amount of time he spends on it. Ideally he'd like a bit of time out of it still so I'm thinking option 2 and grabbing a phenom II 965 and a new gpu is probably the best course of action for him.
What say you OcUK?
