Bought a Dell 34" Curved Screen.

No dead pixels and only a little backlight bleed.:)

Problem - if I connect with a DP cable (nothing wrong with the cable(s) I have tried) then it appears to be working from start i.e. light on , bios screen and start of windows BUT , but only when booted from cold!, as the music starts the screen goes black and I am advised , in summary, no signal & power saving mode is in operation.

Never been an issue on a re-start. Nor , if memory serves, if only , say 18/24hrs has elapsed since it was last on. Def a problem if not used for 2/3 days.

(I do not leave either computer or monitor switched on )

Does not happen every time - as it feels like it and answer is to go into the input menu check that its running dp (it is) and re-ticking - this seems to galvanise into action.

If I were having to use DP the above would be unacceptable but Dell do not provide a dp cable , rather a mini dp cable and their set up manual assumes that it is this that is to be used.
Tried the mini dp cable from cold - no prob. (except a couple of second in, it went black for a second or 2 before being ok thereafter)

Am currently leaving it alone for 48hrs but will then try again - the ? I would appreciate members advise on is :-

Would you keep the monitor if 'no problems' arise when I next boot? or would you rma it?

Reason for asking is that in the not too distant I will have no option but to have to go to Dell with the lottery of the replacement panel etc

Thanks in anticipation :)

Shot in the dark, can you select what version DP you are using in the monitor when it works ? (1.1, 1.2 I believe?), perhaps the graphics card/monitor having issue negotiating the link, what graphics, drivers and windows version ?

Tried a few minutes ago and started etc without issue - it does appear that using mini-dp 'solves' the matter.

Summary:-

DP - Problem(s) :(

Mini DP - Works :)

Not being able to use DP will not cause me any issues at all and as I really like the monitor have decided to keep it and keep my fingers crossed :)

If I'd spent that amount on such a monitor I'd be obsessed with it being absolutely perfect.

But as long as its actually working for you now, you should just enjoy it I guess!

funnily enough i have just purchased a dell u2515h monitor and the same thing happened to me i had hdmi cable in at first and got the same box no signal power saving mode, then tried the dp cable and that worked, not had the chance to check menu or anything else yet.
also the hdmi did work the next time i tried it. what graphic card do you have? i have the gtx 970 it is almost as if its a delayed response from graphic card/pc to monitor.

the other thing i have been doing recently is unplugging my pc from the mains when not in use, would this be a factor to consider?

To get perfect would mean RMA after RMA - and if not faulty no refund of costs incurred. Could prove an expensive business , partic. when it is near impossible to find a shipper who will provide full insurance at a reasonable cost

Running mini dp on this monitor means it does run as near as perfect as one could hope so am keeping - I do not want to go down the route of the panel lottery or to have to hope that Dell will send me a good 'un.

I can only guess at the underlying issue in this kind of situation but do tend to agree that if power was always supplied then probably no problem at all.- my own experience is that leaving it off for a few days resulted in the issue arising again even though for the previous 2 days all appeared normal:confused:
