Mr A has a inno3d 980

Mr A really wants to go SLI so he's covered for the next few years and ready for 4k.

For a 2nd card he has a budget of 400ish.

Dilemma is that the 2nd 980 which is a identical card to his 1st one is going for £430, but there is a special offer for a 980ti at £539

So what will you do?

get a 2nd 980 for SLI, call it a day or squeeze out another 110 and get the ti

Mind you Mr A wont be able to go SLI if he gets the ti, even though he sells the 1st 980 its still a considerable amount of money to add for a 2nd ti

Also there is a ti going for 485, but others around 600+ apart from the higher clock rate and fancy looks, they all produce the same fps in games right, I mean the difference would be very minor?

but bailey said to me that 2 980 will be more powerful than 1 980ti, that is correct right?

Yes, assuming that SLI scales / works well in a given instance.

As for different models, I'm less sure about what differences there might be. I'm inclined to think that apart from versions like the Zotac AMP / MSI Lightning, there won't be much between most 980Ti cards.

Edit : the KFA2 for £485 is the one I have, and so far I'm very pleased with it.

Ti. Everyone going from 970/980 Sli to Ti has been happy.

You shouldn't really think like that, many things can happen.
Also by selling and buying every generation you end up spending the same money, while staying on top of every game.

I've always had decent cards, never spent more than 150£. Just need to sell at the right time (and people on Ebay are crazy).

I have got 4 GTX 980s but for gaming I would rather use 1 or 2 GTX 980 Ti's.

With the 980 Ti's the minimums will be higher and you can use higher settings at high resolutions due to the 6gb of memory.

980Ti. I don't think the 980 is worth how much it costs, let alone if you're only going to get 70% performance out of it.

I would say SLI 980 would be more suited for like 2560 res 144Hz; for 4K, 980 is not really future-proof enough, and the 980Ti would be a better choice. So yea as others pointed out, sell the 980 and get the 980Ti, or try "Mr A" could try to hold out the 4K upgrade till next gen cards release, and then upgrade the graphic card and display at the same time.

Another vote here for the 980Ti. A pair of 980s will be nice but higher minimums is better than higher max frames and a single card will give higher mins. Sell the 980 and you have a good budget for buying a 980Ti.

Stick with a single 980 and wait for proper DX12 cards - unless you are really struggling for performance right now.

Otherwise my vote would be to try and get on a single 980ti.

I too vote for the 980TI, if you're desperate for an upgrade this instant.

As Rroff said above though it depends on how desperate you are at this current moment for the upgrade.

You could stick with the single 980, put aside your £400 and add to it slightly over the next 6~ months on paydays then splash big on a Pascal GPU next year.
