What would you do?

Get a single 980Ti, but don't get an Inno3D, because if it goes wrong Mr A will be moaning like crazy again like last time...

Gigabyte, MSI, KFA2, PNY, EVGA are the best for warranty.

I too vote for the 980TI, if you're desperate for an upgrade this instant.

As Rroff said above though it depends on how desperate you are at this current moment for the upgrade.

You could stick with the single 980, put aside your £400 and add to it slightly over the next 6~ months on paydays then splash big on a Pascal GPU next year.

wow, have not heard of the pascal until now, googled it and I see this:

Nvidia’s CEO went on to state that pascal will be 10 times faster than Maxwell

wowee, that sounds awesome, but i know it will be at least 1 year till the new stuff comes out, Im gonna order the KFA2 GeForce GTX 980Ti "Infin8 Black Edition" for 485, its a deal, then sell the inno3d 980 wait till the next paypacket and then add to get a 2nd ti for sli

Then next year i will sell the ti sli and get the 10x faster pascal gpu

Thundercats Hoooo

10x faster is probably some crazy scenario for something super specific like a certain compute load for a given wattage or something.

Real world gaming performance is likely to be a lot less than 10x faster.

Ti defo

Sli stutter
No profiles straight away
Extra heat and power
Sli scaling isnt always amazing
980's only have 4gb vram if your going 4k 2 x 980's will have the power but not the ram.

Ti better minimums
1 more powerful crd always better than 2 weaker ones
Can always sli the ti at a later date
Less power usage and heat
Will work out cheaper and not that big a difference

Went from 2 d 290x 8gb crossfire to a 980ti with is technicall not as powerful but it performs better. Deffo 1 card.

so 1 card is better than 2 ? i never had a sli set up before....

also what do you guys mean by minimums?

and you say performs better, is that like less bugs and ****** or like more fps, less stutter at max setting?

edit:

im doing some hardcore research, will order by tonight for Wednesday delivery slot, since most ppl are saying ti one card flex, im gonna up my budget slightly and maybe go for a zotac amp extreme or a Asus DC3 OC strix

The 2 cards will perform better "when" the sli profiles work properly. They tend to be more buggy and cause stutter in certain games.

1 card is always better.

Better lows mean the fps drops down. 2 cards might go as low as 20fps but 1 card might only go down to 30fps.

ok guys ive ordered the Zotac GeForce GTX 980Ti AMP Extreme Edition

Reason why I chose this card was because:

its factory over-clocked, so no fiddling around.
Its big so the cooling is great

Also i chose this over the MSI lightning 980ti and the Asus 980Ti DC3 OC Strix because:

its faster than the Lightning, its £60 cheaper than the lightning
I think it looks better than the Asus and over-clocks much better
Its got a massive 5 year warranty
and the only ti card that has a titans PCB

any thing else to add?

You've made a good decision if you want a no fuss card, no doubts there. The huge warranty is also nice.

The Lightning may have lower clocks out of the box but the average Lightning probably clocks better than the average AMP! Extreme if you overclock it yourself, as I think the Lightning chips are binned.

Either way, not a bad decision and you will enjoy the card.

I got the zotac as my second Titan-x. My first was an EVGA SC and was nearly £200 more expensive. The zotac didn't come with the connector covers (you know the little plastic bits you throw away anyway!) but other than that it's the same card.
I just stuck the EVGA SC bios on it and voila. It's an EVGA SC Titan-x for a bargain(?) price :)

Yeah. But he opted for the cheaper zotac. I was just trying to show that there wasn't much difference between the cheaper cards and the more expensive ones.
Especially as the zotac has the 5 year warranty.

Its a nice card. I have the amp edition and its really quiet tbh even when the fans go full wack its not that loud.

Yes there not the best for overclocking but out of the box there brilliant.

this card runs so hot, cant put my fingers on the pcb for more than five secs, not sure if my previous card was this hot under full load.

I will get some software to monitor the temps, in the meantime i dare not overclock as it will increase the heat....

Afterburner. What is the temp reading?

Afterburner. What is the temp reading?

not sure, didn't know what the temps were coz I had no way to read the temps, I will install that GPUZ thingy for a reading or that Zotac Firestorm software...

I know is that it was very hot during the 3d Mark benchmarking Firestrike Extreme, I can remember that using this method on my 7970 I got 3500 and same settings on my 980 I got 5500 but on the ti I got 8000ish inscore, maybe it was under heavy load during benchmarking hence the heat....

anyways im installing windows 10 right now, fresh, but need to install 7 1st! taking so long... then I will do temps checks...

Ah fair enough! Sorry for misinterpreting.

My card idles at 45c and ends up sitting in the high 60s/low 70s when gaming, I'd hazard a guess at your Zotac doing similar, but I am not too sure if Zotac has a zero RPM mode or not.
