Hey folks.

Will try to keep this quite short.

I bought a Powercolor 290 PCS in nov 2014 when they were quite cheap on OCUK. Was spot on for 4 or 5 months then started to blackscreen on idle.

Searching the deep web this is down to some poorly implemented power management on the 290 cards where the card doesn't have enough juice at all given times in idle states resulting in random blackscreens. Really hard to diagnose due to you can game on the card fine on full clocks.

So I RMA'd the card back with OCUK who I fully expected to just send it back after benching it and to be fair after a couple of calls they agreed to swap the card. The replacement card was a Asus matrix Plat which was way above and beyond what I would have expected, hats off to OCUK.

Now I would guess this is around a year on or a little less and the replacement is doing strange things at idle

Issues are freezing at idle or a freeze and a reboot. Only at idle. I gamed all day on it yesterday and it was superb.

I find it really odd that both cards started off fine then the problems slowly creep in. Also worth noting that the cards have been cross tested in different machines so that the issue is definately the cards.

I feel bad trying to RMA this again and am also a bit wary of pressing my luck as in normal testing it is unlikely to fail being benched etc.

Anyone got any ideas or should I just jump ship to a 1060?

Bit :( about it as I don't have much cash at the mo.

If you have confirmed its a faulty card then RMA it, that's what the RMA process is for.

Why should you pay for a card, not use the RMA service for a second time and except its faulty then have to pay for a new card?

what OS did you test it with and what drivers? did you try with some older drivers if you installed the latest ones? I have a 390 and went bcak to 16.6.2 as had random BSOD and game freezing on the latest drivers
