What would you do ?

You want your PC to work.

It isn't.

You are in two minds about allowing them to take it back from you to correct the problem to get to the resolution you desire.........?

Do you see the problem here?

Thank you all for the answers..

I guess i am just frustrated at what is happening, as i said in my OP it is something that i always dreamed of, to have it now go wrong is driving me up the wall.

As for returning it for them to fix yes that is the obvious choice but then im scared to death i wont pack it properly and it gets damaged in transit, then i will have nothing.

As for people saying the system shows the clock speed and not the overclock.. well it says 3.20 GHz in the bios screen too.

some people here may think 5000 is a lot to spend on a pc and yes it is but it is something i have always wanted, It is all the money my mother left me, with instruction that i should use it to get myself something i always wanted so i did.

Maybe i am making too much of it because of where the money came from.

Thanks for the answers anyway guys.

Ive spent a good few thousand with OCUK over the years and I am pretty confident if this is one of their machines they will sort it as long as the op isnt a PITA.

I think some perspective is needed.

Yes you spent a lot of money, but at the end of the day it is just a PC.

It will get fixed. If it doesn't, as has already been pointed out, you have consumer protection on your side (even if it gets damaged in transit).

Things like this happen. It's life. Let them sort it out and go and enjoy the outdoors before your new shiny PC comes back all fixed up and turns you into a hobbit.

Dude....

Send it back and let them look at it.

Might just be one part that is faulty and they replace it no questions and send it back....

like i say what if it gets damaged.

It came to me packed in one box, that was packed inside another larger box, and all of that was strapped down onto a pallet.

there is no way i can pack something that well to go back to them.

i am even looking at hiring a car so i can drive it back up there that is how paranoid/stupid i am getting.

just tell the retailer you need to return it and arrange all the packaging with them....

no disrespect but 5k lol aswell :P

Is this from OcUK? We can help in the Customer Service section, however it sounds like it is a competitor?

Just tell them you don't have the box, get them to send a replacement box out and send it back via courier. After they send you the packaging to return it, if it's damaged in transit its not on you.

They have every right to try and fix it instead of replacing or refunding, it is only a BSOD after all, it's probably something relatively simple to fix.

And yes, you will be paranoid after spending that much on a PC, I can't even imagine the specs for £5k, that's more than I've spent on my last 3 builds

have you still got all the boxes? if so just reuse them, pop to the local supermarket (if you have one) and get a load more cardboard and stuff out the boxes with. have you still got the pallet it was strapped down on - re-strapping it is relatively easy if you have. if not just let them know and they can decide how to proceed.
I know it's worrying especially as it's been bought with money left to by your mum, but try not to worry too much. ultimately it's up to this other company to make the necessary arrangements to get it back.
remember to take photos of it's current condition, just in case something goes wrong in transit.

now my 2 pence worth - personally given where the money came from, i'd try for a refund and maybe buy something more longer lasting, a nice watch for example. if I was spending money my mum left me I'd want to buy something that would be with me for a good number of years, preferably until it was time to shuffle off and then I could pass it on down - but I'm not trying to lecture, just saying.

good luck - let us know how you get on

It's worth noting the Control Panel > System and potentially the BIOS as well depending on where you're looking won't show an overclock:-

Something like CPU-Z will confirm whether there is an overclock or not and is an easy check to make.

I dunno. I was in a similar situation to you 10 years ago. Not inheritance but buying a house. After I laid down the deposit and got the keys, I had £5000 left to spend. I treated myself to an above-average spec PC from OcUK for £700ish, spent another £2000ish to furnish the living room and bedroom, then whacked the rest back into savings. You never know when the boiler packs up or when you'll need a new washing machine etc.
