Hi guys got a bit of a poser for you, would like peoples honest opinions...

So currently i have an AMD 1700 paired with a Vega 64 and a 27" 1440p 144hz Screen, i mainly play MMORPGs and ARPGs so im not really taxing the system most of the time.

With that said i have been waiting to upgrade my PC and give this PC to the kids, when i upgrade i want an Ultrawide Screen, and will probably wait to see how the new Ryzen CPUs are before i make any firm decision on Intel or AMD CPU's.

So my question is this, given i mostly play MMORGPS and ARPGs, i do occasionally fire up an FPS, with a budget of £2k-£2300 or so, im wondering what the best option is

2080 + 3440x1440p is probably out of reach if i want a decent CPU + Mobo + Ram + Case + Cooler

Keep the Vega 64 and pair with a 3440x1440 Freesync screen, buy a Vega 56 for the Kids to pair with my 27" 1440p. Im guessing the Vega 64 should be ok running these types of games on this type of screen.

Keep Vega 64 and buy a 2560x1080p screen, will i notice the difference overly much?

Buy an Nvidia card and either a 3440x1440p or a 2560x1080p card.....

Basically i want an Ultrawide but trying to figure our the best resolution and which card to pair it with...

Whatever you do, get the ultrawide.

In thirty plus years of PC gaming, its been a revelation for me.

Will never, ever go back to 16:9 by choice.

Yeah I was looking at that panel, it's Freesync 2 so has HDR even though I think it's not proper full on HDR is jt? But good enough for gaming, think I'll settle for that, what is the best £300 or so GPU right now? Vega 56?

Yeah its 'fake' HDR, cracking screen though, and yeah, Vega 56 all day long at the prices they are now.

What Nvidia GPU would you recommend for a 3440x1440p Panel? Obviously it would be a G-Sync panel... What trades blows with the Vega64 for Nvidia?

I run a 3440x1440 Gsync panel and if I absolutely had to buy a card now, I would buy a 2080.

OCUK are competitive with the MSI Ventus at £638 and even though it has the lesser rated chip it gets good reviews (silicon lottery not withstanding).

But why obviously Gsync?

You have an AMD card so why not buy a Freesync panel?

I have a GTX1080 and it is mostly fine at 1440p,and a Vega64 is similar speed. However, for those kind of games I can see you potentially being more CPU limited in terms of minimums with a Ryzen 7 1700. An RTX2080 is roughly 40% faster at 1440p than your Vega64,but I would suggest perhaps first doing a CPU upgrade to 7NM Ryzen or one of the Intel CPUs.

I'm going for the new Ryzen if it's decent, but I fancied a decent 3440x1440p screen, and I dunno maybe an Nvidia GPU and G-Sync setup to compare to my Vega and Freesync setup

If buying a monitor now, especially on a budget like yourself, you would be mad to buy a G-Sync monitor- it only runs on Nvidia, whereas FreeSync monitors now (generally)work on both AMD/Nv gpus.

Just do a bit of research on the FS screen you are looking to get for VRR ranges/Hz.

I game at ultra wide 3440 x 1440 and the vega 64 is grand. Enjoy you will never look back after super wide

Keep the V64 and get a 3440x1440 Freesync, you will be surprised at how capable the V64 is at that resolution particular if you undervolt it. :)
