Recently bought a EVGA 1080 superclocked used from the bay, card works fine however one problem,I believe the bearings in the second fan are shot :/ this was not described in the listing as having a dodgy second fan,The fan spins but a whirring/grinding click that's annoying.

What would you do?

1.Contact the seller and ask for at least some money back due to it having a dodgy fan.
2.Ask for a full refund and send it back
3.contact EVGA see if it still has any warranty? (doubt it but warranty sticker is still there)

My concern if I get a refund im going to be out of pocket to send the item back,as that will probably be around £11 insured,The seller had to know about the fan before selling it,its quite obvious.:(

Also if it does have warranty is it even transferable, worth the hassle?then il have to pay postage to them too, arghh.

contact evga and see if it has warranty remaining (might get a shiny new replacement) and if not i would bite the bullet and send it back as not as described.

Well just looked on google and cant find a warrenty check box people keep mentioning of existing,so ive sent them a message asking to check the serial number for me see what/if anything is left.

Ive messaged the ebay selling about the issue he is yet to respond (i suspect he wont)

PayPal will give you a free return up to £15. Google it and enable the offer.

thats good to know, appreciate that heads up if i should need to send it back.

Is it not the VGA warranties that are transferable or I got the wrong manufacturer? If so then contact seller if it needs transferring.

As GPU's are in cases the seller maybe oblivious that they had a failing fan and didn't hear it develop as just got used to it over time. Unless of course it's so obvious they must've known.

End of the day not an expensive or difficult fix but I understand it's not what you were expecting.

Here if the worst comes to worst

If its not warrantied then I'd send it back. It may seem OK now but I suspect the seller knew it was on the way out.
Obviously if it has warranty get a replacement.

So I got a reply from EVGA, they said the card is still in warrenty up until 21st December 2020,as long as I register the card on my account amd go from there, so I'm going to do that I think and see what they say, if they repair the fan or change it out for another card, unsure, do they even make 1080s anymore (non Ti?)

That is what I would do, I'd be curious what you get back as I have the same card with 2 years warranty left (paid for 5 years of warranty)

Was a nightmare getting hold of someone on customer service Europe, was holding for AGES lol but finally spoke to a guy and he helped me out setting up the RMA,it will be interesting to see what happens too,i explained the card itself is fine just the second fan seems on its way out and he said like grinding/Whirring noise i said yeah and he was like okay,So unsure if they'll swap the cooler on the card or swap the card for something else.
im just curious if they do swap it for another card what i will get,as i assume 1080s are no longer in production?

Well, there's a chance you get a bit of an upgrade so that'd be cool. I suspect they'll fix the fan though if they've got any spare parts.

RMA has been approved,Woop woop.

yeah hopefully,What would be the modern equiv to a 1080 non ti? Do EVGA keep it Nvidia for Nvidia or do they also swap it out for AMD cards of a similar or better performance?

WARNING

when you RMA stuff

i did that for a 300 quid GPU after i bought it from ebay, the card was sent BACK to the seller i bought it from ! and the seller wouldn't give me my money back or card, Paypal only managed to get a small amount of them :(
