What would you get for £20k?

So, I find myself in a bit of a dilema, not a bad one I have to admit, but I can't decide what car to get as there are so many good cars at this price point. I find myself looking at "relatively sensible" such as an Octavia VRS or Focus ST through to "seriously crazy" like an M3 or 911 and everything else in between.

So, just out of curiousity, what would you guys be looking at if you were lucky enough to be in my position?

Is this a one-off lot of cash, and if you buy a 911/M3 you'll be scuppered by the running costs?

What do you want the car for? A Skoda and a Porsche are utterly poles apart, you might as well ask for a list of every single car costing about £20k.
 
Tough one. There'd be the sensible part of me that would just go for a Focus ST and pocket the other half of the budget for other things. Then there's the stupid part of me that would start looking at E46 M3s and the like.
 
C5 Corvette, Or a Z06 if that's enough for a good one. Or if I needed a saloon, maybe a good E500.

You're kind of missing the point dude, this isn't a "spec me" thread as such. I'm not asking what car I should get, i'm asking what car YOU would buy. The 20k is a one-off, so subsequent running costs would need to be taken care of from your regular salary
 
Having done the whole 911 thing, i would now buy an SL55 AMG by cobbling together a couple of extra grand on top of the budget. If i HAD to stick to the 20k then i guess it would be a 996 C4 Tip cabrio, the budget is a tough one though as it too much for older cars, yet not enough for something super serious.

This is far too much for an E46 M3, for example.

I'm not in your position as I don't know what your position is.

So what does regular salary mean? Is that enough to run a Porsche or an M3 for a year? If it is, then that's what I'd get. If not, then I'd buy the best car to fit what my annual budget was.

I'd be buying a Corvette (probably a Z06 with that budget) too, because it ticks all the 'seriously crazy' boxes whilst still being perfectly usable and relatively sensible to run.

Plus you don't see many of them....
