just noticed the Steam is running weekend deals on both of these.

Galactic Civilizations III & Elite: Dangerous, both around the £20 mark.

So can't say I'm more that the very occasional gamer really, so which would you plumb for, just to dip in and out of for odd hour here and there over the coming winter evenings?

Does Elite need a decent graphics card to do it justice?? (mines an early Radion 6850)

Elite at that price is a no-brainer!

You can pick up Galactic Civilizations III on the official site for $24 (£16) or a little less at other online shops.

I loved it for ages, then it just became very samey with little to no content after a while. Some people still love it though. At £20 it's a bargain though.

LOL... Am I missing something??

Only thing you will be missing is lack of content. Elite gets very boring after you have grinded away to a half decent ship.

Great looking game, combat is fun, but you run out of stuff to do after some hours in.

What sort of thing are you looking for in a game? I'm sure we can find something decent for £20.

Too late now, it's downloading at this very moment. Not bought a game for ages, last one was X-Com. Quite enjoyed that one other than it being a bit short.
