What would you have done?

So someone has an accident, which you didn't see at all, and your first reaction is to stop, hurl abuse at the person when he is quite clearly shocked and traumatised after the event which most people would find pretty scary, and then you post here as if we're supposed to pat you on the back for being a shining example of an alpha keyboard cowboy? Quite honestly, you're what's wrong with the world today. No facts on the matter, just straight in there with the blame culture. Good one. I suppose if he'd have hit you or something then you'd be straight in there pressing charges despite you antagonising him.

It's not uncommon for people to get angry towards someone after they have put them at great risk. If the op had kids in the back of his car I'm sure prolonged verbal abuse would have followed.

I suppose the correct thing to do in this situation is pull over, make sure the driver is ok, and if the damage is bad then call the police to say there is bits of car all over the road. But having a car almost swipe in to the side of you makes your brain go off in all sorts of directions.

Was driving home on Sunday through Milton Keynes near the hub. Dual carriageway with 4 lanes of traffic separated by a central reservation with grass on it.

Was in the outside lane when out of the corner of my eye I saw a car seemingly reversing over the central reservation I swerved and he must have missed me by about a meter.

I think he must have lost control and skidded and somehow ended up going over the central reservation backwards. His car seemed damaged as there was bits of trim over the other side of the road.

I pulled over and the guy seemed to be in genuine shock, car seemed to be a high powered asian saloon (i forget the name) Nissan Skyline maybe. So I gave him a piece of my mind calling him a stupid ****** and went on my merry way.

People at work seemed to think I should have called the police.

what would you have done ?

I would not have stopped in this example

Should have hurled abuse at him got in your car ran him over and did a Chuck Norris wheel spin on his face.:D

nah seriously though in hindsight you were probly a bit shocked aswell and people do stupid stuff when shocked but i dont think you should have shouted at him unless it was his fault and did something stupid?(i dont know if he did)

*Video full of swear words*

How did you manage to dodge him, then stop and shout at him. Did you reverse or get out of the car and walk back up to hurl your abuse?

Not thrown a load of abuse at him for a start. You've no idea what happened - you just stereotyped him because he had a nice car.

If you are going to be like that why even bother to stop? What a **** thing to do - he'd had enough of an ego bashing without random people like you stopping to abuse him.

Bit of an odd thing to do, the guy clearly never meant to end up on the wrong side of the road regardless of what happened. Speaking from experience when you've lost all control everything goes in slow motion and each new object to hit just brings more dread

In your situation if his car didn't look a complete mess (and so wondering if he was hurt) I would more then likely just have went on my merry way. I did once stop to help a scooby driver who lost it big time off a roundabout in the wet, fishtailed before bouncing off a barrier and ending up backwards a good few hundred yards up the road. His fault obviously as he was being a bit "keen" but the poor guy was seriously shaken up, felt sorry for him so stopped, made sure him and the passenger were ok and moved the scooby minus front end into one lane, helped him call insurance for recovery then went on my merry way.

In this situation, i probably would have pulled over checked he wasnt injured, if serious enough i'd call the police or whatever, if not and he wasnt a complete douche probably would have sat and chatted with him about cars/life or whatever till some assistance arrived.

he's most likely in shock, may or may not be injured, just destroyed his pride and joy, his ego has just taken a MASSIVE hit, last thing he needs is some random pillock coming along on his high horse and hurling abuse... i'm not normally violent, i can be short tempered and grumpy, but if i was that driver you would have probably left there with a bloody nose.
but its good to see majority of people in this thread have a little decency.

I'd probably just continue my way if it looked like the guy is okay.

For all you know he may have had a blowout or whatever.

Had a similar experience a few years back, white van facing the wrong way in the central reservation, bit of its roof rack on the road.

I stopped to check the guy was OK, he panicked and drove off so I phoned his registration into the local police and moved the stuff out of the road.

Its not up to you to decide if hes fit to drive or at fault, the police need to know so they can check, don't want a(nnother) unfit person ragging it around on the roads. Let them check into it.
